44 mag Tracker

I have a Tracker model in 44 Mag.and I find this the perfect size woods gun for me. I don't go in the woods without it. It is light and very accurate. When first purchased it would bind up after 3-4 cylinders( 5 shot) of 44 mag but I sent it back to Taurus and they returned it in the best shape I have ever had for a revolver. The timing is perfect and it is very accurate. I changed the grips to Hogue but I do this on all my revovers. I had a S&W 629 before and that went back to the factory three times and never was reliable. I really like the Taurus revolvers.

Not clear to me. Is that a 50/50 vote? One loved and one disliked?
That's right, and there's no option for that in the poll since you can't choose multiples.

PT-22: Much maligned on the Internet, but works perfectly
That's the one I still have. Perfect and I love it. Sold a Pt-111 that seemed a good idea at the time, but proved to be inadequate in a variety of ways.

I think all the bad publicity about Taurus is from people who hear about them from the few who have had problems. I think the people who own Taurus guns are actually too busy shooting them to say just how good they are!
...And you would be wrong on both counts
And some folks love them like their own children.
Perfect analogy--people have to love their babies--even the ugly ones--because they have a vested interest, and their ego is at stake.
You can recognize an ugly baby when you see one. But if it's your baby, you'll get mighty PO'ed when a stranger calls your baby ugly.

Horrible experiences.

The ones that I have had were all sub-par. They are cheap. If you want quality, like Glock, Sig, H&K, S&W, Nighthawk, Wilson, Springfield, etc., you will need to pony up a little extra dough, but IMHO, it would be money well spent.

You can buy many cheap guns that keep breaking or buy one quality gun that lasts for decades. I prefer the latter. Peace of mind and hassle-free ownership is worth a few extra bucks IMO.

I like mine

I only own one. But it has been problem free for me. Mine is a 6 inch 686 clone. I also own a SW 4 inch 686. Both shoot great. I can shoot the Taurus a little better than the Smith. The wood grips on the Taurus seem to fit my hand better than the rubber ones on the Smith.
The Taurus is a little large for CCW so it is my truck gun. It is near perfect for that. I did not pay much for it, but I trust it for self defense and rodent control around the ranch. If the truck gets broken into I am not out much. The Taurus would be easy to replace. Jim

I've got a couple but will not buy another... ever. They are not even close to the quality of a Smith or Ruger. Are they servicable... yes. Should you save a little extra money and buy the best quality available... yes.

http://www.chuckhawks.com/smith-wesson_dark.htm Read what Chuck Hawks thinks of S&W, they have changed hands three times in recent years and bean counters are running the company, unless you think the Sigma was a quality gun. Ruger's last two attempts at building a semi-automatic have ended with recalls as they keep failing the drop test. The first Vaquero was built like a tank, too bad it didn't sell. the new one Vaquero lite, can't be fired with hot ammo. The Blackhawk and Redhawk are fine weapons, too bad the design is so outdated.Taurus gives you the best bang for the buck which is why one or more of their models have been awarded handgun of the year every year since 2005. Their production has increased from 500,000 to 600,000 annually, somebody must like them....I know I like mine!It is a little too big for concealed carry, but it sits on my nitestand for home defense.I have a Kel-tec P-11 and several NAA 22mags for concealed carry..

I have owned 3 Taurus revelovers, not much into brass spreaders! I made the mistake of selling the 44 mag but still have a 3 inch model 85 and a 2 inch 44 Special. Like them all and will buy Taurus again when I get the chance.

The real world is that all gun companies have problems at one time or another. I have not had good luck with Ruger at ALL, have had good luck with Smith and Wesson and Colt.

Have a great day and fun in trying to find ammo for all those guns you all have!:D

Don't want to change this to an ammo thread, but check you local one owner type gun stores. The chain stores are always short or out of ammo, but all of my local small gun shops have had ammo with no problem. Yes, it's a little higher cost than Wal-Mart.

To keep this on subject:
By my count 35.19% had positive response...so far.

31.85% had negative response.

Did not count the neutral response.

I am guessing that Taurus does not mind that they are the subject of so many threads on gun forums. I bet they think being talked about is good...even it's bad talk.:D

Had one, getting another

I had a pt111. Shot good and only missed if I did. I had no trouble with the sub-9. Very accurate. It was for my wife. Only problem was the brass hit her all the time, but not me. So I got her a sub-XD and good to go. I sold the pt-111 to a buddy for CCW. He likes it and has no problems. I got a 651 for a little revlover to try. Will let you know more as it run some round through it.

I have/do owned 5 Taurus firearms.

1 Revolver a Model 415 in .41mag
4 Semi-Auto Pistols all in .45acp
1-PT-1911
1-PT-24/7
2-PT-145

They have all been great guns so far.

I owned a PT1911 - I never had any issues and it is one firearm I regret selling. I currently own a Model 66 .357 from 1992 and love it.

Ever sent in a brand new gun for repair because it broke on the first magazine you put through it? Now imagine it coming back looking like an erector set with a note stating that they no longer carried the part to fix your new gun after waiting 9 mo. Happened 2Xs! Never again.
