You should have separated the revolvers and the semis in your poll.

I've never owned either but "from what I hear", I more or less look favorably on the revolvers and not so much on the semis.

That, having never shot any of either, so I'm only slightly off of "neutral" on both versions.

I own a 444 Ultralite and a 651 Protector. Both function fine. I believe that Taurus has made vast improvements in their revolvers and no longer deserve the "Bad Rep" they USED TO have. I have heard mixed reviews on their semi-autos and as much as I like the feel of the trigger on their 1911s I am still on the fence about purchasing one.

Bad experience with a PT-99 locking block failure. I've detailed it in several posts on this forum before, don't feel I need to rehash it again.

I owned a Taurus 7 shot stainless stubby revolver in .357mag and it was a solid revolver. It was intended for my CCW and ended up being a bit heavy while loaded.

I've owned two....

PT-908: Bought new. Great little 9mm single-stack. Had one issue (failed extractor spring) that Taurus replaced (and reblued my gun for free). Preferred 124gr and heavier bullets to 115gr. Still kick myself for trading it off...and still keep my eye out for another one.

94 .22lr: Bought used. Shoots great. Need to replace rear sight (knew that when I bought it). No light strikes or misfires with quality ammo (use Velocitors most of the time.)

...and YES, I have trusted my life to both pistols at different times...without any hesitation or regret.

BTW, if Taurus customer/warranty service is so bad, why not spend the money on your local gunsmith instead of FedEx? You may come up with better results....I have.... :D

Poor QC

The picture speaks for itself.

I had a 7 shot .357 revolver that came from the factory malfunctioning. I sent it to the manufacturer and I got it back in 5 weeks. I promptly sold it before I had any more problems with it. That was my first Taurus and will be my last one until they start to have a history of good QC

I got a 94 .22 revolver. It's had problems, locking up and misfiring up to 100% of the time.9 rounds hit 9 fails is how bad it got.I sent it in and it's been over 2 months and still no gun back. The cs said it would be done in a week, week and a half, and it's now been over 3 weeks with no gun.

Heres some of the things for me. I am friends with and sometimes work at a gunsmithing shop. There seems to me to be a disproportionate number of Taurus’ that come in when compared to the number that are out there. When Taurus numbers rival S&Ws and when a lot of the S&Ws are 40+ years old, it makes you wonder. I know that our dealings with their service department is sometimes terrible. Also when Taurus is brought up to people whos opinion I respect and have a wealth of knowledge say look else where I have to give it credence. It’s a shame too that they feel the need to port everything . They have/had some very interesting options like a 3" DA 45 colt.

3 different perspectives

FWIW: I have personally owned and had all kinds of problems with 4 Taurus (.357mag & .44mag) revolvers that were just JUNK. ON the other hand I have never had a problem with a Taurus semi-auto pistol. While it may see hypocritical I will NEVER own a Taurus revolver again but I wouldn't hesitate buy a PT series pistol if the price was right.

My buddy "G" WAS just the opposite hated the semi-autos because he had lots of trouble with Taurus semi-autos over the years, but trusted Taurus revolvers, because they are the training gun used at the range where he spends a lot of his time. He recently bought a Taurus 85 and it crapped out on him in less than a year, took Taurus over 2 months to repair and return it to him. He now says he will NEVER own another Taurus of any kind.

At the other extreme is my friend "R" that must own +/-15 Taurus handguns (revolvers and semi-autos) and has never had a problem with any of them. While he trust his life to a Glock he CCW's he does not hesitate to brag on on his Taurus guns or shoot them a lot. He is always on the look out for a good deal on a Taurus.

In my life I have purchased 6 Taurus revolvers NIB. Three worked and three did not! Dealing with Taurus Customer Service was an absolute mess. Two of the revolvers never got fully repaired.

Never, never, never buy another Taurus. Life it too doggone short.

I voted "own one and loved it", but you have too many choices with the same general theme. Trust your life, love it, all my guns, etc. should be combined.

Love it-23
Trust life-4
All guns-1
28 positive response.

Dislike-7
Don't like-6
Horrible-10
23 negative response

So far.

Got a 44 R Mag Tracker. Trigger needs a little work, but not too bad. But would lock up cylinder when I shot 44 Spl CCI Blazers. Voted neutral.

I've had 2 -- one semi auto one wheelgun - both crap. Poor fit and finish, sights were too small and CRAPPY triggers. I will never buy another one!

I had to vote "love it". I have a Millennium Pro PT111 and my wife brought into the marriage a M85. Sure I have many other brands but both Taurus handguns work well and were priced right. Hard to go wrong.

I own the one semi auto that Taurus got right: PT92-AFS.

I had a Beretta 92FS, but I traded it away for a BHP and kept the Taurus.

Yeah, it gets carried on occasion.

I voted Never owned, neutral opinion.

Most of my experience with them is hear say. I have fired a relative's .357 Titanium. I was shooting in DA and the trigger stuck and wouldn't return forward. It had to be taken to a gunsmith to polish up some internal part. It shoots fine now. I've held a few PT1911s and they feel great, they've had a lot of great reviews other than the issue with the safety falling off, I'm halfway considering buying one after I get a few other pistols I want out of the way.
