Only one...

I would take the .44 mag, . . . as I have both a rifle and a pistol that shoot that cartridge.

I can load it down to pipsqueak shooter, . . . or I can hand load it for bear (pun intended :D ).

May God bless,

I never liked Glocks but the G19/23 and the Glock 26 like in you picture alway appealed to me. Especially the G26. Nice pic, 9mm is an awesome catridge, but I have to go with 45. I shoot best with a 1911 in that caliber and like the catridge.

Great Thread

I thought about starting this thread myself. It would have to be .357 for me also. Really like the versatility, especially if you allow use of .38 Special. This caliber is also available in several rifles I would use for hunting, lever and single shot. Easy to reload. I have been thinking about narrowing my handgun collection to my favorite three calibers, 9MM, .357 mag, and .45 acp (1911). I really can't do without all three in handgun.

Haha. I hear you Kmax for me its I cant do without the 9mm. I need my 45ACP and 9mm at least. Those are my 2 favorite and I believe the most practical calibers.

357 magnum would be my choice. Between that and the 38spl it can also handle, it covers most of the bases a handgun is used for.

Will I still have my rifles and shotguns? If so, I'd pick .45 acp.

If I can only choose handgun rounds with no ability to choose a rifle round, then .357 magnum. I'd get a nice .357 lever rifle for hunting.

If I will have only ONE caliber and I could choose a pistol round or rifle round, I'd take 7.62x51.

Blue you bring up a very good point that may very well make me change my answer. If I have shotguns and rifles I really don't need a handgun at all. I don't live in bear country, I'd still have viable hunting guns from mouse to moose, I'd still have viable and prehaps the best HD arms and I live in a very safe local where if I watch my P's and Q's the odds of needing a defensive handgun is almost worse than that of winning a lottery.

So to be frank my answer is now .22lr. With it I can cheaply plink, target shoot and hunt. I can perform SD duty with what I estimate at 80-90% efficiency as compared to it's bigger brothers. I can use it as a finisher on game. And so on and so forth.

Yep, if I only have one handgun make mine a .22.

22 is good

I agree that a .22 rates quite highly. I have always had one in either a rifle or handgun since I was about twelve. I never really even considered being without one.

I'm still trying to decide...I think the 357 is just too accurate and deadly to choose the 44 but I guess maybe that is only because I have shot 357s much more.

357 MAG Hands down the best caliber of all times ,As a mater of fact I just sold all of my botton feeders & went back to revolvers only.
