One sidearm, suggestions?

I'm have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea of just one gun??? Maybe one for each day of the week plus one for morning carry, afternoon carry, evening carry, bedroom, around the home, outside the home but still on your own property, one for each vehicle, and everyone needs at least one stupid big gun just because :D

The 1911 has two safeties, one manually activated thumb safety and the grip safety. You do not need to use the thumb safety and the weapon is as safe as a glock.

$1200, one gun. I'd say a Glock 19 or a 26, or a comparable XD or M+P. and a bunch of ammo. Since you say you have 1 of each I figure you probably don't reload.

I was in Scheel's in Great Falls earlier this year and they had the Kahr CM9 @ $389.99, so I decided to give it a try. At the checkout, the gal asked if I had a Scheel's credit card, and I said no. She said if I applied and was approved, I could get another $50 off, so I ended up walking out the door with it for $339.99 :)

Short version - I am thoroughly impressed with this little 9, and haven't had a single failure yet (300+ rounds), no matter what ammo used. Junk Russian stuff to high performance defense ammo, 115 grain to 147 grain, jacketed or lead - it all works great.

Since you indicated you have the funds ($1200) to go beyond a Glock, I'd step up a level in quality, and look at a Sig P229 or P226.
I've had all 3 (including G19) and there is no comparison in the quality, balance and precision of the 2 brands.
Good luck, it should be fun.

Hate to say it, but you can't beat a 9mm or .40 Glock. 19/26 or 23/27. The Smith M&Ps are awesome, too. Both brands are boringly reliable.
The CZ P-01 does interest me as a sidearm (metal-framed da/sa) but I haven't shot one (always wanted to, though!)

edit: I would avoid any Kahr, as I'm not a fan of their trigger pulls, or trigger resets. However, if you're used to shooting double action revolvers, ignore my advice!
