One Million Mom's for Gun Control - new anti-US Constitution movement

Mom's for GC - new anti-US Constitution movement

This is some of the anti stuff I found out there, this isn't my personal position at all.

Option 1: Like one of the Pro US Constitution pages listed below and then share all of the posts and pictures that you like with ALL of your friends on Facebook. I even "liked" some of the "anti" pages because it gives me an instant news feed of what they are doing.

Option 2: Someone needs to visit this page, and see if it is possible to offer intelligent rebuttals. I posted a a comment or two but normally it was IMMEDIATELY zapped.
Careful with this option, they can twist what you say and keep your comment on their board to propagate their agenda.

A better question is: whose mind do you think you're changing by arguing with them?

The fact that you've even engaged with them has inflated their sense of worth already. Let the anti-gunners circlejerk, it has no bearing on reality.

Ignore them.

It's kind of telling that just like the idiot sportscasters talking about guns a few weeks ago they have blocked their sites from truly random responses, and instead get to parse and pick which comments will best support their position, and which will never see the page.

In typical totalitiarian fashion it's in no way about a "free exchange of ideas", unless you agree with them.

What disturbs me is that it seems like the anti-constitutionalists are making a more effective mobilization than the people who REALLY do support the Bill of Rights.

1 Mil Mom's for GC is a grassroots effort formed in the wake of the devastating mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown Connecticut.

Horrified and heartbroken by the events in Sandy Hook, mothers of the United States are coming together to fight for tougher gun control measures. The group’s founder is Indiana mother of five S. W.. Now thousands of moms have joined her. We’re growing by the day with more members and dozens of state and local chapters.

Together, we hope to prevent more moms from experiencing the pain and heartache of those moms in towns whose names are etched forever in our memories: Littleton, Paducah, Blacksburg, Aurora, Tucson, and now Newtown.

We understand the Second Amendment guarantees the right to keep and bear arms—just not ALL arms. [span style='font-weight: bold;']No one’s hobby or interest should endanger the general public, especially innocent children. Let’s make our country a better, less violent place for them.[/span]

* 1 Mil Mom's for GC is not affiliated with the group 1,000,000 Mom's. We are an entirely separate group.

Our Mission

Our mission is to bring ethical influence to the gun control conversation. We want our elected officials to:
Reinstate the assault weapons ban as strengthened by Senator Feinstein and ban the sale of corresponding magazines.
Close gunshow loopholes that encourage private gun sales and avoid background checks.

Limit the amount of ammunition that can be purchased.

Limit the scope of concealed weapon laws at the state level.
Encourage mental health awareness and better access to care.

Maybe – maybe (I don’t think it’s all that clear) – the Second A gives people the right to have as many guns as they want. But the rest of us (80% of Americans who don’t own guns) have an absolute right to safety, and freedom from gun violence. Our government’s #1 obligation is to keep it’s citizens – especially the most vulnerable – safe.

I would advocate putting a very large tax on bullets – like $1-2+ each; one of the problems is that bullets are so incredibly cheap (many are ~ $.05) and use the $$ to fund anti-gun campaigns, and background checks, etc. License PEOPLE, not just guns – if you have to have a license to drive car, shouldn’t you have to have a license to buy a gun? work on the finger print technology to “password-protect” guns – technology that makes it impossible for anyone to shoot a gun whose fingerprint isn’t set as the “password.”

Finally, I think we all need to be very careful about the mental health piece – the gun nuts like to blame gun violence on the mentally ill – but only 5% of mentally ill people ever commit a crime. I would like to see increased funding for mental health – we just need to be careful & truthful about it, and not make it seem like gun violence is caused by mental illness. It’s not.

Good luck with your good work!

Hi! I fully support your cause. However, many people on facebook, where I shared your link, are complaining that “1 Mil M's” is against gays. They are confusing your grassroots efforts with the American Family Association’s group, 1 Mil M's. Can you officially clear up the confusion? Thanks!!

The guns are already out there. How do we deal with this problem? Here are two laws that could be passed to mitigate this problem.
1. As of Jan 1, 2014 possession of an unregistered gun, or a gun registered to someone other than the possessor, is a felony. (Possession means on the person or property of the possessor.)
2. The owner of a gun will be charged with felony accessory to any crime committed by another person with the owner’s gun.
The rationale for the first law is to encourage registration of unregistered guns. To help facilitate this the government could play an active role to make registration easy for owners. The government could even offer to purchase unregistered guns.
The rationale for the second law is to encourage gun owners to secure their guns so they don’t fall into the hands of others, especially those who might do harm, such as happened at Newtown. Many domestic shootings occur because guns are not secured. Stolen guns are often used in crime. People might think more carefully about the responsibility of owning a gun before buying one.

We have to ban the sale of assault weapons! The intent of the 2nd amendment was to allow our citizens to possess guns in order to overthrow our government if necessary, as we did in the Revolutionary War. Well, we won the Revolutionary war & we were out-gunned & out- manned, but our human spirit prevailed. Hundreds of bullets flew in a matter of a minutes at an elementary school. If not for that assault weapon, the perpetrator ( I will not mention his name) could have shot far less, perhaps only 6 bullets and then been restrained by teachers & staff with far less loss of life. Call your Senators & Congressman, tell them to ban the sale of assault weapons. We must protect all of “our” American children. I will not let the lives of these children be in vain. Let’s band together for meaningful change, for a better America for all of our children. This is a good first step and not a total solution, but it is necessary!

This response to the Ntown CT incident is a "lynch mob" mentality, so a quick decisive action is more effective and long term has less effect.

[span style='font-weight: bold;']IF YOU WANT TO JOIN SOME F A C E B O O K PAGES THAT SEEM TO BE MORE IN LINE WITH THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE THE CHOICES ARE BELOW.[/span]

If you "like" a FB page, EVERYTHING that page posts shows up in a "News Feed." Your "collective" F a c e b o o k page displays ALL of the posts from ALL of the "liked" pages in real time.

FB is a LOT faster than loading a single web page though a URL because you can browse 1000 news sources simultaneously in real time. If you went to EVERY website for 1000 news sources the news will have changed before you were able to flip though even a faction of the web pages.

Further, when you choose to share a post or link or information that you found, it is instantly transmitted to EVERY person on your friends list to their "do everything" mobile device, as long as your settings are set correctly. Be sure to check with some of your friends on your friends list to see that they can see what you are posting on your "wall."

B O is using FB with wicked efficiency. Although many of this 34 million "likes" were purchased he still has enough base on his FB to likely reach millions, with goals to reach more.

Gun Owners often shy away from social media and, in the end, that might prove to be a costly mistake.

I have not had the time to look though many of these, but I found most of them in the "likes" of the Gun Control Kills page on FB. So far, generally speaking, they do not seem to be a balanced news source. Choose at your own risk.

"It's not about dialogue, it's about action."

You literally can't talk to these people. Don't try. Some people are too far gone. Worry about those on the fence. You're not changing the minds of dedicated Antis any more than they're changing yours.

There's no where near 1,000,000 of them, and there probably never will be. Looks like they're 99% short of their goal. Before or after Newton, there's not much of an appetite for gun control. The zealots are out and noisy right now but they'll get bored and go away soon. Emotion rules at the moment, calm will eventually prevail.

No, it can't. I find the bolded part very telling:
Mission Statement

"National page for One Million Moms for Gun Control. This is not about dialogue -- it's about action. Let's demand the reinstitution of the assault weapons ban, among other laws that will tighten gun laws in this country."
Given the OP's statement about comments being "zapped," I seriously doubt that any pro-gun-rights statements, no matter how eloquent, will be immediately deleted. In that regard, it may be like the Brady page. I've seen a few pro-gun comments there, but they soon disappear.

ETA: Looks like Brian P. beat me to it on the dialogue/action comment.

We understand the Second Amendment guarantees the right to keep and bear arms—just not ALL arms. No one’s hobby or interest should endanger the general public, especially innocent children. Let’s make our country a better, less violent place for them.

It's apparent that despite their claims, they do not understand the intent of the Second Amendment.

But, all of their shrill, irrational and emtional responses can be explained, alfter all, "it's for the children"

Now I'll go and launch the bacon egg english muffin that I just enjoyed.

The Thurston Gun Plan 20 December 2012

I want to address a few points about guns and mental health information that should translate into new gun laws.
1. The Second Amendment right “to keep and bear arms” sounds like the colonists were to be armed in order to defend this country from an outside invasion, from the fact that early colonists made up the only standing army. Others interpret the 2nd as a right to defend oneself from a tyranny. The NRA is bent on interpreting the 2nd as an individual right to own every weapon legally available. The 2nd does not supersede our freedom to go to school or the store. I’m letting my NRA membership expire.

2. Some will say that “guns don’t kill, people do” as if the statistics of gun violence do not exist. The FBI provides the statistics since 1965. When someone commits a murder, they do so 67% of the time with a gun. They use blunt objects 5% of the time.

3. If you’re an NRA member like me, we hunt, shoot trap, and teach with programs like Eddie Eagle for kids. From my experience thus far at the local gun club, I see irresponsible weapons possession, and there’s little measure in place to curb the quantity or type of weapons ownership. During my 14 years in the Army National Guard, I had the pleasure of teaching many soldiers how to fire the M16 rifle at Fort Carson and Camp Atterbury, helping them to “qualify” at the rifle range. It was clear to me that some soldiers had no business learning how to use combat weapons, because they did not possess the physical or mental abilities to handle such a rifle. I was shocked to find similar assault style rifles, modeled after the M16 on the public market with high capacity magazines, and powerful handguns, in gun stores, after my Honorable Discharge from the Army Guard in 2004. I double checked the dates on The Federal Assault Weapons Ban from 1994, expiring in 2004. I wasn’t aware of the ruling while I was training soldiers. I don’t own an AR15, the civilian model after the M16. I’m aghast as to why people think they need to be able to out-gun the police. The 5.56 round designed for the M16 was specifically intended to enter the body at one point and ricochet, exiting in another, inflicting as much organ damage as possible. It is a combat weapon compared to the single shot muzzleloader that is an effective hunting rifle. I do not side with the NRA on the point that the AR15 translates into an effective hunting rifle. Hunting rifles are for hunting game, assault weapons are for combat use. You need only compare them side by side. This is called “Common Sense.”

4. NRA members possess Concealed Carry licenses because we can. I do have a Concealed Carry license, but choose not to carry. Vigilante concealed carry owners are ignorant, untrained dangers to their families and the public. I was taught early on that if I was not willing to take responsibility for discharging the weapon, to leave it home. Concealed Carry licenses do not equal “trained” at the same tactical proficiency of the police. I can say that because my dad was a cop. Dad stopped a robbery at a local gas station one night. Dad stopped a hostage situation with a rifle, and he had a badge in his pocket on both occasions. We don’t need vigilante justice. We already have highly trained police officers.

5. If you’re a lawmaker, let’s make it our goal to see a completely new family of gun control laws through.
A. First, we need a family of new federal laws that prohibit high capacity handgun and assault rifle sales. We need to stop the sale of high capacity handguns and assault style rifles that were intended for military and police use. Class Three weapons licenses need to go away entirely. The general public has no business owning any type of weapon that threatens the police or public at a combat level.
B. Second, we need laws that require record keeping from the school counselors to the family physician, accessible by the FBI. When Felony gun checks are initiated at local gun shops, those same gun checks can tip off store owners to persons deemed mentally unfit to possess firearms. School psychologist, school counselors, and family physicians should be given the authority to grade a person’s Mental Capacity. This Mental Capacity Grade could be entered in school and hospital computer networks, ending up in FBI and ATF databases. HIPA must be circumvented to give physicians the authority they need. Family Physicians see mentally challenged patients every day. This is information sharing that’s presently illegal. We need to change it. HIPAA information sharing needs to transcend the family physicians desk to a national FBI database for weapons purchases. We could cut child abuse at the same time with these new laws.
C. We need to see Concealed Carry licenses, Felony history, and a Mental Capacity Grade printed on the back of Drivers Licenses and personal identifications for the handicap. Any police officer should be able to read the data without the need of a barcode, on the back of your Drivers License.
D. We need entire NRA generations to pass on in age before we can truly see national change take affect. For the first time in our nation’s history, our computer technology has proven that we have the power to affect change, yet we’re not using it. People will say that it’s impossible to reign in the ownership of 300 million guns, gun licenses, and mental health identification. Hog wash. It is possible.

Respectfully,

As long as they limit their support to Facebook and bumper stickers the gun owning public will be OK. This will blow over.

Reading some of the stuff on that page made my head spin. Its amazing how people can be so ignorant not just about guns, about anything. One woman said, "the public doesnt need machine guns or automatic weapons." Uh, lady, we dont have them now as it is!

When they outlaw semiautomatic weapons, illegal full-autos will suddenly multiply because as Kinky Friedman* would say, "Why the hell not?" Is that what the Million Moms™ want?

It is easier to make build a full-auto gun in a garage machine shop than a semiauto, plus at that point everybody loses all respect for the law.

*that was his campaign slogan when he ran for governor of Texas.

America seems to have an entire generation of people who were trained to think in a way averse to the United States Constitution. Why is that?

This caught my eye:

When someone commits a murder, they do so 67% of the time with a gun. They use blunt objects 5% of the time.

It's mostly true*, but they're also leaving out knives, "personal weapons" (hands, feet, etc), and the catch-all categories of "other" weapons and 'unknown'. Knives and "other" weapons generally make up the majority of the remainder of murder weapons, with personal weapons still making a good showing. (*firearm usage varies, by year, from about 50% to 70%, depending on the economy and location)

And, when you get away from murder, you get away from firearms.
California, alone, in 2011:
324,808 Assaults
-only 17,164 involved the use of a firearm. (5.3%)
-14,873 involved the use of a knife.
-30,732 involved the use of some "other dangerous weapon".
-The remainder (80.7%) involved the use of strong-arm tactics and personal weapons (threat of violence, disparity of force, hands, feet, knees, head-butts, etc).

What we have is tyranny of the majority... George Washington was vary concerned about it but in the end I guess we as a nation chose to go down that road.

Basically as I understand it (Right or Wrong) The Electoral College was tasked to do the voting for those that could not get to voting places and they were expected to vote in accordance with constitutional principles. The electoral college was also suppose to be smarter than joe citizen and vote in such a way that freedom would be preserved and the nation would prosper.

Lets face it in a lot of ways the founders were right... We have one group or the other group leading us down the path of "um not so good stuff".. We were intended to be able to keep our cultural and historical identity within a framework of respect and freedom. The path we choose was a one size fits all cookie cutter approach that does not fit all and largely destroys cultural and historical norms. No don't get me wrong I am not advocating inequality but rather the right to be different.

Our other problem is that the Federal government has grown to be much more powerful than any given state, with the possible exception of California that has more influence than even its population suggest.

We at some level need to be able to establish historical identity and cultural norms within our communities but that's isn't what has happened.. The Fed is simply much stronger than its suppose to be and were losing our identity to a blender....

Note: This is just some anti stuff I found online, it does not represent my personal opinion:

Here are a few new Chapters, I added them to the list above. Among them, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Queens, and Miami Beach. Do not underestimate the power of social media. They can send instant messages to thousands of people in real time to their "do everything devices."

Here are the rest of the anti-US Constitution sites I could find on FB.
I have a reliable but unsubstantiated source that says it is possible for people to purchase "likes" on FB. Considering this possibility particularly when you see FB pages that have 34 million likes.

I have not look at these sites in detail, sorted by number of "likes"

Okay, I just spent about an hour on the One Million Mom facebook page and had some interesting debate. Never once did I call names, stuck to the point, and at least from one person, was finally given a certain degree of respect. I stated the points clearly. There were many numbers thrown around, and no one knew the true numbers. There seems to be a lot of ignorance there. BTW, what are the real statistics concerning crime in NYC, not the ones cooked by Bloomberg and his ilk?
