One handgun only...what would it be?

I used to say my Sig P229 would be my last gun if I had to give up the others, but the CZ P-01 has moved into that position I believe.

Hope I never have to make such decisions

Only 1??? hhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Only 1??? That is a tough choice. Can I have one on my hip and one in a shoulder harness?? ha ha

One option would be my Glock 17 9mm in a should rig with one mag in the gun, 2 mags in the pouches of the shoulder rig. If things in the world got ugly then I could add 2 more mags in a belt pouch. 5 mags X 17 rounds = 85 rounds.

The other option would be one of my Ruger Speed-Six .357 Magnums with the 2.75" barrel in a Don Hume pancake holster with 6 rounds in the gun and up to 4 speed loaders on my belt making the total 30 rounds. Not near as many rounds as the G17. But, this gun packs a punch and is very versatile. My thought is to load the gun and 3 speed loaders with my standard 158 grain ammunition and one speed loader with some 180 grain hard cast ammo for extreme penetration.

At this time, I could not actually decide which one to take.......

I'd have to go with my XD compact in 45ACP. Never once had a hiccup, and the gun is ridiculously accurate for such a short barrel.

If you're talking strictly for end of the world, gimme a good old school 1911 in a full slide and I'll be a one man army. ;)

My CZ P-01 shoots deadly accurate, 100% reliable and best of all fits like an extension of my hand. I've always felt if you have to adjust or compensate for a gun in your hand you have the wrong gun.

Smith & Wesson 686-Plus, stainless 7-shot revolver, 3-inch barrel, .357 Magnum chambering, because:

  1. Small enough to carry without sitting on it or having the muzzle stick out from your shirt/coat tail.
  2. Big enough to shoot comfortably and with good control, good practical accuracy.
  3. Good capacity for a revolver.
  4. Ammo is widely available and inexpensive.
  5. Available with lead round nose, lead HP, lead hardcast, jacketed softpoint, FMJ, JHP and copper hollow point factory loaded bullet styles.
  6. Factory loaded bullet weights from 105gr-200gr
  7. Available with powder loads from mild .38 Special (83 ft-lb) to heavy .357 Magnum (700+ ft-lb) from the factory
  8. A reasonable choice as a carry, nightstand or range gun.
  9. With the right loads, can work for hunting animals from squirrel to deer at modest ranges (< 50 yards).
  10. Woods defense against coyotes, wild dogs, wolves, mountain lion, with the right loads, black bear
  11. Simple to operate, reliable, easy to care for.
  12. Holsters and accessories are widely available.

If you mean one handgun with no limit on accessories, I'd have to go with a .40 caliber 226 with conversion parts for .357 SIG, 9mm, and .22. Of course you'd need adjustable sights for different loads, as well as multiple magazines for each caliber. It would be damn expensive for a single weapon.

Maybe a P250 with all the different sizes and caliber options. It's not the best shooting weapon out there, but the variety offered for a single serial number is crazy. You can get 9mm, .40, .357 Sig, and .45 in subcompact, compact, and full size only using one drop in frame piece.

Would have to depend on the situation. If the defecation has hit the rotary oscillator, I wouldn't need to conceal the 226. If concealment was necessary, I'd have to go with the 250.

A good 4" revolver chambered for .357 Magnum,,,

A good 4" revolver chambered for .357 Magnum,,,
Even though I would never load it with anything other than .38 Special.

It would be good to be able to use both different cartridges.

Aarond

.

It would be the first gun I bought, which I bought with the mindset of "If I can only have one gun..."
.357 Ruger GP100 3" stainless

Reliable
Tough enough to withstand mistreatment
Easy to find ammo
Fairly accurate
Small enough to carry
Powerful enough for most 'targets' and again
Reliable

Only one! Gotta be a magnum revolver. I love my s&ws but either gp100 or redhawk. Honestly today i would say my redhawk would be the pick.
