I have to admit, that pretty well provides all the context needed for murder prosecution.
I remain in awe, however, of their terminal stupidity in carrying it out.

Ignorance is curable.
Stupitidy is terminal.

+1, I agree completely. Just glad that the DA released the information that they did to put to rest the speculation. Doesn't happen that way very often. It appears that the DA is actually moving quickly in support of this young woman. Kind of takes your breath away. There really is no room left for any speculation except what this kid and his lawyer will do with these very serious charges.

A corrections officer I trained with at my first Aikido dojo told me that his general observation about the inmates at his facitlity was: "These people aren't in there because they have great judgement and impulse control..."

She did a heroic thing to stand her ground, protect herself and her baby from likely death by the scumbags. Lesson for scumbags who are thinking of breaking into homes/other private property. There are millions more Americans like this woman who refuse to be a victim. Be prepared to meet your Maker.

I'm glad she had the means and the skill to defend herself and her child.

I have no sympathy for the guy that repeatedly tried to break in the house.

My money is on the fact that they knew she was there and alone and made the classic mistake of thinking she was an easy target to rape and murder.

Without saying things that will get me in trouble here,I am glad she did what she did and the way she did it.

Perhaps the gentle reader might be interested in this

Seen it, but my permit doesnt allow for vigilanty type behavior. It is for my sole protection, it doesnt allow for me to look for bad guys and take care of them. It is for my personal protection. I look out for me and mine, I dont go out with the intention of being a hero.

Many on this Forum feel themselves to be responsible sheepdogs

Many, ... not all.

But I would also take care to avoid associating those who might be, with vigilante.

A bottom line:

"this business of being a sheep or a sheepdog is not a yes-no dichotomy.
It is not an all-or-nothing, either-or choice. It is a matter of degrees,
a continuum. On one end is an abject, head-in-the-grass sheep and on
the other end is the ultimate warrior. Few people exist completely on
one end or the other.

Most of us live somewhere in between."

"These people aren't in there because they have great judgement and impulse control..."

Yes...

One of the advantages I feel I have over most criminals - they do dumb things.

In the case of this break-in, it took some time, it wasn't like he caught her by surprise. He spent considerable time getting through that door. And knowing there was a dog - a German Sherherd on the other side ! He was just very dumb.

She did what she had to do!

Exactly.

My wife and I have been talking a great deal in recent days about this case, and she is coming to the realization (finally) that if ever an intruder broke into our home that there is no guarantee that the cops will arrive in time to do anything except deal with the aftermath.

She has always shown a degree of interest in shooting, and goes to the range occasionally with me, but now her interest is definitely getting whetted. I find her dry-firing quite a bit lately.

We are not all sheepdogs here, armed or otherwise. There are also sheep, wolves and goats.

And then there are those of us who consider ourselves to be people, not domesticated pets, wildlife, or farm animals.

Aspirations to being a dog seem awfully low, don't they?

The whole sheepdog analogy is way over used, misapplied, and over simplified to explain society. It does not include the large number of individuals, for example, who carry for self protection and who have no interest in trying to save all of his/her fellow humans from the bad guys.

For those of you who are sheepdogs, you will be the ones to round up the sheep for slaughter when the master tells you to do so?

C0untZer0, she had a third German Shepherd? I missed that part.

Two died mysteriously, earlier in the week, and the police seem to suspect they were poisoned in order to soften the target.

Was there a third, adult dog?

Interesting.
I never thought of myself--or many others throughout my life--quite that way.
I'll keep it in mind now.

Cheers....

Regards the internet rumors and "friends of the perp" defending him: A few years ago a local kid robbed a store and shot and killed a local cop who chased him. Cop was a highly respected and much loved member of the community. Kid pled guilty and is in for life, no parole. Yet to this day, some members of the community say "there's more to the story", "he had his own reasons for pleading guilty, but he's innocent", etc. There are many people who don't much care about right and wrong, they only care about "them" vs. "me and mine". Unfortunately, we're among the "them", and sometimes we need to defend ourselves.

Bingo!!!

Months ago i posted a thread on another forum. A former city fire marshall had gotten himself fired for the second time. One night he went drinking and caused a big ruckus. He tried to stab folks and got thrown out of the bar. Once in the parking lot, the guy started shooting at bystanders. The bar owner showed up and killed the man.

My post:

A Lawton bar patron became unruly and was thrown out. Timothy Taylor threatened folks in the parking lot with a knife and later started shooting at bystanders. The bar owner came out and killed Taylor.

Prediction: The bar owner will get a pass by the Comanche county DA.

Despite the fact that my post was short on personal opinion; i was immediately attacked by a friend of the former fire marshall.

She had a live German Shepherd when they interviewed her on TV, I assumed the dog was with her when the attack occurred, but she could have gotten the dog after the attack or the dog could have been tied up outside.

Assuming things can get me into trouble...

I don't think German Sheherds are as good a sheep dog as the Border Collie, but I did have one that liked to herd things... she like to keep everything in a group, I saw her herd puppies and she also herded my neices when they were tick or treating - she just wanted everything to stay in a group and whenever a member of the group seperated she would nudge them back.

But anyway - technically, here is an example of something that actually is a sheep dog - her German Shepherd.
