Noise Levels of Bedside guns

I might be willing to use a suppressor for self-defense on a fixed-barrel semi-auto handgun, but not on a model where the barrel moves with the slide. I know about recoil boosters that are made to compensate for the reliability issues that can result, but I'm not sold on the idea.
