No More Walmart Ammo?

There is not a walmart store in a 30 mile radius (7 of them) that has anything other than an occasional box of 40cal around here. All of their ammo has gone up in price. This time last year, you could buy 50 9mm for 7.97/bx., 50 40cal for 12.97/bx., 500 22cal for 12.47/bx., - now all of it has gone up at least $2/bx, but only if you can find it. For 38s and 357s, you have to wait until its gun show time. There is none to be found at a reasonable price. The good thing is that there is now some room at the range, because nobody wants to shoot up all of their ammo.:D

Wal-Mart ammo sales

About the same around here, no 9mm, no .357 , lots of shotgun shells tho ! Both local wal-marts ammo shelves are the same thing. It seems if someone won't bend to wal-mart pricing ( as ammo manufacturers now have no need to ) wal-mart is not aggressive in resuppling there stores. .....WVleo

The Wal Mart near me (in Marietta GA - West Cobb county) is selling Winchester hard ball 45 ACP for $32 for a box of 100 (It's been that way for a long time). 2 years ago, they'd have over 100 boxes in stock and I could buy them in lots of ten. Now, they never have more than 5 boxes in stock at any given time. The ammo counter used to have massive stacks of ammo of plenty of calibers behind the locked sliding glass. Now, that cabinet looks like Old Mother Hubbard's cupboard. The stuff they aren't out of on any given week will have maybe 5 boxes at most available.

I buy all my ammo at Wally's World because unless you load your own, nobody can touch those prices. I have to assume the shortage is caused by people buying that ammo in large quantities, panic style. Wal Mart's prices don't fluctuate much, if at all as far as I have seen. But 2 years ago I could buy a box of .300 SA Ultra magnum (20 rounds) for my hunting rifle at a gun shop 30 minutes from the house for about $22 (Wal mart doesn't carry .300 SA Ultra mag). Now, that same box is $35 there. And online, I see places offering it for $50 for a box of 20!!. I am certain it's because the dealers know people will pay top dollar for just about any ammo right now. It's really sad to see how low some of them stoop to make a buck.

Just got lucky! Whenever I go to the "Wall of China" of couse you got to go by the ammo section and the guy behind the counter pulled out a box containing a bunch of 100 WWb in 9mm that he hadnt had time to put on the shelve yet. I loaded up. Just in the right place at the right time. Yes I did leave plenty for the next guy.

the local walmarts have plenty of the common calibers, but no .32acp, or 10mm.

the pyrodex, and #11 primers or on sale tho. ill have go and pick me some up.

Walked in and bought 500 rounds,,,

I was surprised but just this noon I went into WallyWorld,,,
They had 100 round boxes of Remington brand,,,
357 Magnum 125 grain hollow-points,,,
$46.97 per box.

It's not the best price I've seen but it was the first .357 mag ammo I've seen in 4-5 months,,,
I bought all 5 boxes just 'cause I don't know when they will get more.

I feel like almost like I'm preparing for a SHTF scenario,,,
I've never hoarded ammo before this year.

Last night I scored 10,000 rounds of Remington .22 lr,,,
$200.00 for 20 bricks of government ammo,,,
Weird white boxes with no lettering,,,
Hermetically sealed foil wrap,,,
A years supply for me.

Now all I have to do is get some .44 mag and I'm in business,,,
I gotta learn how to reload before next summer.

Aarond

my local gunshops have had all calibers in stock for at least 6 months (even .380).

walmart, however, nearby me only has only 40cal, & once in a while 9mm. haven't seen 45acp at one in quite a while.

My Walmart is still getting ammo in and it's limited so if you see it you better buy it because in a day it's gone.

"I bought all 5 boxes just 'cause I don't know when they will get more." = "...it's limited so if you see it you better buy it because in a day it's gone."

Just sayin'...

You and a million others. That's exactly the reason for the shortage.

Local store here added a second case and has boxes and boxes of 9mm. Has always had 40 on hand. No 45 to be found. LGS big box is finally rebuilding its supply back up and has 9, 38, 357, 40 and 45 available.

My local WW has tons of 223 40S&W 44Mag and shotgun ammo. Selection on 22LR 357 9MM and 45ACP can be spotty at times, but doable if you check in often. I just picked up 300 rounds of Federal TMJ 9MM for $9.97 a box of 50 and 3300 rounds of Federal 22LR in the 550 bulk packages for $15.87(IIRC)a 550 box.

Just had a local gun shop owner offer me his last 4 bulk boxes of Winchester X-Pert something or the other for the bargin price of $28.00 and some change per box, 555 rounds per box IIRC. I just smiled and said to him "obviously someone already paid way too much for that ammo and I not following in their foot steps", I don't think he understood though.

Yep, I went into Walmart, same thing 5 box's/100 of Rem 125g .357's, I lift two for the next guy. And only bought two out of the five Fed 555 22LR bricks.

But even if I did buy them all they would have been gone almost just as fast.

I agree in the right place at the right time theory. I was at WM a few days ago and just happened to ask the clerk if they had any ammo at all. He asked what I was looking for, I said .357, .38 or 45acp. He said he had 45 and ask how many boxes I wanted, I took what he had left, 7 boxes of Federal 230 gr FMJ for $16.99 a box. Christmas came early for me.....

That poor guy behind you that needed just one box to go qualify at the range and had to pay $26.95 for the same ammo at the range.:D

The clerk told me they don't even get cases, just a mixed box of ammo at a time. I did happen to pick up 250 brick of 45 umc for $89.

Picked up 6 boxes of 50 round Federal 9mm today for $9.47....at 10:30 am and there was another 10 or so boxes left on the shelf. They had 45 acp too (didn't need any...got it there last week)

Sorry, but I have been that poor guy that needed one box to qualify and was never able to get it. I have been waiting months to find ANY ammo so if this makes me a bad guy, then so be it. Blame the guys that buys it all up and then sell it to the gun shops......

Some are also buying the cheap walmart ammo and reselling on gunbroker for twice the cost. It's a shame.

Why is that a shame, sounds like good ole capitalism at work to me. Somebody goes and finds ammo at what they feel is too low a price, buys it up and then finds someone else who is willing to pay their asking price. Everybody wins, how is that bad? I was under the impression that is how our economic system worked in this country.

And to those that cry gouging please go learn the actual legal definition of gouging.
