No More Walmart Ammo?

I was browsing at the local Walmart sporting goods and asked the girl at the counter if the ammo shortage had gotten any better. She told me that she had just tried to place her weekly ammo order and was told by her regional distribution center that she could not order any more ammo. She said it had something to do with the war effort. Has anybody else heard of this?

lies. That lie's been around forever. And it's just them being stupid. They can't get ammo from their distro, so, instead of fessing up that people are buying ammo like stupid and they can't keep up with demand, they pass the buck.

By, the way, what kind of ammo you looking for? Edit: I ask because I know a few stores that are loaded with certain types of ammo in Il.

I wasn't planning to buy. I reload my own and only occasionally buy WWB 45s to replenish my brass supply. I was just asking out of curiosity. She said she placed an order every week but this week they told her she couldn't order any more ammo.

Simple answer is that their distros out and they're making up excuses. No chance that the military would be buying WWB .45ACP off the civilian market. If you want some and you're near here, the Miejer in Normal, Il, has a couple of 100rnd boxes. I can't quote you the price, though.

Walmart in my area is now getting ammo in fits and spurts. For a long time, they had a pretty good offering, consistantly.

The WalMarts around me stopped carrying ammo over a year ago....just kidding, the employees buy it all and resell to the LGS who then mark it up to its current levels.

I haven't seen any handgun ammunition in an East TN WalMart in a long time with the exception of an occassional box of .40.

Around me, the only ammo you can't find, easily, is .380 and 9mm, course I don't visit Wally World, so, I can't speak for the one near me.

All 4 walmarts in a half hour radius from me get ammo regulary. 9mm and .40 S&W, and .357 Sig are plentiful. .45 ACP comes in, and is available if you show up early enough to buy it.
I started reloading, and have tons of brass so I do not buy any. I do keep my eyes open for the cals. I do not reload for my friends. They also have good stocks of .223, and .44 mag.

My neighbor is a Walmart manager and I asked him about it. Long story short, stores with a higher profit margin are getting it first, BUT, if you ask any manager, each one would give you a different excuses.

He said they will get it, but they just do not know when. Maybe the sales lady just asked the wrong manager, and the manager who told her that was sure he heard it from a higher manager, etc etc etc

We have a Walmart that sold a lot of ammo.... and now has changed it's shevling, etc. to eliminate any handgun ammo. They are now carrying only rifle ammo and shotgun shells, and that's limited.

I went to another Walmart and they still had spots for everything except, .380, .38 & .357 ammo.

most of the local walmarts are getting shipments but heard that it as going to be up the store managers if they choose to keep ammo sales or not. until ammo is back to normal walmart is in the same boat as all other dealers (walmart hates this) as they try to get the best undercut deals on ammo as long as they buy x-amount they get a discount, the mfgrs are selling it faster then they can make it so they dont have to discount it to walmart as they can sell it for the same asking price to someone else.

I think I can shed some light on this. In researching similar stories from other sales clerks I have found that there is some truth to her statement that "I can't order ammo anymore".

It appars that Walmart has made a corporate decision that the ammo ordering belongs at the distributor level and not at the store level. Therefore, what the gal said is correct. She can't order ammo any more. The distribution center will now determine how ammo supplies are divvied up.

My local Walmart was pretty good for a while in 9mm and .40 but now it is back to a few boxes now and then. The manager said they would get stuff occasionaly when the warehouse had it but it was very hit and miss.

walmart uses the book sellers inventory system on all of their products now. that means that if a walmart store is sent 10 50 round boxes of ammunition, and and someone buys 8 boxes, the inventory computer will send HALF of the purchased amount of ammuntiion on the following delivery truck.
and unless the entire resupply of 4 boxes of ammunition is purchased, they will not resend anymore ammunition until the store manager makes a complaint and the managers are lucky if they can remember to have employees wash their hands in the bathroom.

I was at my local walmart today.

They were well stocked on 22LR, 223, and 40. The shelf space where these calibers are stocked were full, so I am guessing they have more in back.

Five boxes of 9mm, one of 25, and two of 44 mag.

About 20 boxes of 20 count 45 acp SD ammo of some sort. $22 for the 20 rounds.

Odds and ends of hunting rifle ammo. Not a single shotgun slug to be found. Several boxes of .410 supposedly designed for pistols. Bunches of birdshot.
