That being said, a speaker phone works great for when you are put on hold. It allows you to work hands free on whatever you need (except for things like jack hammers, etc.), albeit you need to remain within earshot of the phone unless you use a wireless headset/mic....which we have at the place I work at.

I realize that being "tethered" to a speaker phone may not be the best solution but wasting an hour vs. earning an hours income is silly.

It also helps to let everyone hear the awful, awful music they inflict on us while we're on hold (yes, it is that loud and distorted).

I have had nightmares about that song.

Oh man, I'd love to know how many combined hours I listened to that song back in December, January, and February!

But nope, had the hold music just start blaring through the cubicle farm at council headquarters.
