Newsweek causes Muslim unrest, then retracts story

CastleBravo, thank you for serving, but not serving long enough to think you could do any job within the branch without specialized training. :D

There's only one way I can figure it would be done:

Interrogator: Where is Osama?

Silence.

Riiiipppp, flush...

Interrogator: Once again, where is Osama?

Silence.

Riiiipppp, flush...

And so on and so forth. Seems like a waste of time to me, since the definition of interrogation I was taught was "to extract and fully exploit information of intelligence value in the least amount of time possible". Of course, it has been years since I took the basic course...

Edit: Oh yeah, interrogation rooms as a rule don't have toilets. My theory has just been debunked.

here is a little more fuel.......

Today on talk radio: I don't have the college educated journalist name it's a she that much I recall. She stated that U.S. Forces were targeting foreign journalist and killing many. I could just bet we know which so called company these foreign journalist work for too ;) She forgot to mention or note same targets were either holding a RPG or an AK............. My view is if they look like a BG and act like one........ treat them as one......so sorry if the same guy also had a video camera......... War can sure be hell.........

I said this on The High Road and I'll say it here.

Newsweek screwed up. That being said, they did not cause a riot. The riot was building and brewing as the extremist in these countries built piles of wood and poured gasoline. Newsweek simply dropped a book of matches for these guys to light it with.

How do we punish Newsweek? The same way you punish a TV news show and other outlets. Withdraw your support. You correct problems at Newsweek by cancelling subsciptions and convincing others to do the same.
Withdraw support for Newsweek advertisers and tell them why.

The reporting was shoddy. Their aim/purpose is certainly suspect. However they did not cause a riot. It's not like the folks involved were sitting around peaceably going about their lives. This had been brewing for some time.

This wasn't bad technique, this was Newsweek screaming "Fire!" in a crowded theatre to get a reaction. They got it. Sometimes what you think is a little lie blows up in your face.

GunsnRovers - I think everyone understands that Newsweek played a small part in something that's been "brewing" for a long time as you put it. I couldn't agree more.

The point is, they didn't just screw up. A "screw up" is something that can be fixed with the next issue like:

"In last months issue, an incorrect mailing address was noted for.... the correct address is....."

It's impossible to convince me that the "informant", author, and editors did not KNOW what would happen if that story was printed.

I am by no means a political brainiac. I have zero knowledge of the media industry, and I have absolutely no contacts in the Pentagon.........

.......but I'm intelligent enough to understand that if I tell my neighbor Jim (muslim population), that my other neighbor Bill (USA) is banging his wife Susan (flushing the Koran), that I can assume Jim is going to kick the $#!+ out of Bill (rioting and 16 senseless deaths).

Good advice you post here:

For Newsweek to assume that the Muslim population would not want to retaliate against our armed forces over-seas, and against us here on our own soil is complete B.S. They knew damn well what the consequences were.

So, in a not so indirect way, Newsweek has put the lives of each one of us in more danger - on PURPOSE.
