Newbie with equipment/general questions

I don't know I have had that question asked for a semi auto . The signs are nebulous and the highest I worked with was +p, then back off as I used factory for the normal carry and the hand loads are purely practice or back up ammo.

I did work ups with 41 magnum in some serious loads and got the sticky cases in the cylinder. Not what I normally do but I was woods cruising and fishing and it was an in case bear gun (far from the first option but as it was marginal to start with I wanted as much as I could get, ergo the 41 as it had slightly better penetration and carried 12 more rounds for it)

Mostly I hoped to get up a tree and then let it go away.

locknloader, flashhole, just offered to mentor you. If I were you I would start jumping now and then I would pm him and find out how high he wants you to jump. You will learn much more from a mentor than any book. You can not get the "feel" from a book or a video.
Even if he is too far away I would find a mentor. It is a lot easier than most would think. Just go to where you buy your supplies and wait till someone picks some up. Just go and ask them if they reload, and let them know your situation.

I got to pull the handles on 2 Hornady, 3 Dillons, 3 Lees and a Rockchunker before I bought my first bullet. I now own 4ea Hornady Ammo-plants. and a Hornady ss.

@drain smith - He is very far from me so it would not be practical but i do appreciate the offer. I will have to find one of the guys down at the gun club who reloads and see if they can pass down some knowledge.

I don't mind discussing it at the range but I would not have time to be a real mentor.

I have been fortunate in my brother being as deep into this as I am and we have resolved a lot of ???? things kicking it back and forth.

Equipment work out also a big one. He got me into the off the shoulder trimmers and those are wonderful.

I am annealing now as well.

In turn he gets feedback from me and the interaction has benefited both of us. We have been hunting, reloading and shooting over the years so a solid base there.

I wills say some of it is how it appeals to you, so you do need to watch the though shalt types. There are a lot of ways to go about it with the same end result, some suit some personality and some others.

One mantra is you need a meticulous bench. It is by far the best, but my reloading is also a work bench and it tends to be a mess (yes I am working on it). I make it work with no issues.

Many would run screaming form the shop.

I think the gun range/club is better than asking a stranger at a store.

I tend to be pretty negative at people walking up and starting to ask me questions at stores. Gun range you can see what they are shooting and if the interest is aligned.

Of course I had two ladies at the range who annoyed me seriously. One took pictures when I was not looking and then asked if I wanted copies of them. Hmmm, I am not into the selfie /facebook etc generation and I don't like that.

The other one started to and I asked her what she thought she was doing. I told her not to.

I think they both thought they were being social.

Crabby old guys are not the best ones to try that with!
