New, to me, 220 Swift---

I've always figured that with the same-weight bullets, the Swift and the .22-250 were about the same for muzzle velocity, give or take a smidgen.

I used 4064 in my loads for the Swift. 3/8 MOA for about one grain weight of powder below book max. I dunno; maybe some of these newer powders might work better. I was "Swifting" almost 40 years back. :)

I know the Sierra 52-grain HPBT ruined feral cats at 300 yards. One of those "quit right there" deals.

You guys are fantastic---gotta love this forum---learned my thinking was right, less is more [muzzle velocity that is], good suggestions for cleaning and the best performing bullet weights--along with a number of you that have been very pleased with your Swifts over the years---just regret that I didn't get one a lot sooner---always figured one day to get a 22-250, but sounds like there is no need now, looks like I've got exactly what I wanted--thanks to all of you for a wealth of practical info on my new varmint express-

going to try for a couple photos here----- has the 200th year markings on the barrel--haven't had that on any of my other Rugers---john

That's all right (and not irredeemable).

In the mid-late 60's My father rebarrelled "my" M70 Swift of the early 50's into a 243. (!)
When I inherited it, I rebarrelled right back into a Swift. :D

I figure that for field use, it's pretty much that the Swift = the .22-250 = the .204 = the .17 Remington. Close enough as makes no nevermind on prairie dogs and coyotes and such.

Sure, the .17 is gonna lose on wind drift and the .22s are gonna come out ahead at longer ranges with the heavy bullets they can use. But, for a guy who gets all married up to his choice, it winds up as splitting hairs...
