NEW Ruger Mark IV

So a lot of Mk I,II and III owners claim there is no need to disassemble their guns to clean them. So what then is the big deal about the Mk IV's take down button?:)

Ummm, well a lot of gun owners also like RemOil and blast their guns with WD-40 but I suppose I wouldn't base any rational decisions on the fact that those folks exist. So I'm not sure what you are getting at.

I bought my Mark II in the spring of 1994. At some point beyond that, I took it apart for the first time. Getting it back together was certainly not as simple as, say, a 1911 or a pump shotgun. But I managed to do it with a bit of practice.

It's just NOT that difficult and I am certain that I'm not in the top 90% of men who assemble/fix things, that is absolute fact.

I do believe the Mark I-II-III does benefit from being stripped and cleaned every thousand or so rounds and I don't believe it is a horrendous, impossible, diabolical chore the way so many seem to think that it is.

Not a big deal, just nice to have !!!

Your point is well taken as I am one of those guys that doesn't have the need to take them apart for cleaning. However, there are those who do and eventually, I too will want or need to. Then there are those who want to do upgrades and there again, be forced to take them apart. As stated earlier, from what I'm seeing, the cost is comparable to the MK-III,s. To each, his own ..

Be Safe !!!

I hadn't though of it but an ultrasonic cleaner, bluing friendly cleaner, no water, jsut open the bolt and put it in, preferably a non metallic tub or something to keep it off the metal .
I see I'm not the only one with hammer strut blues on the MkIII.
MKI is a bit aggravating but nothing like the MKIII and I see no visual difference.
What cleaner would you use?
Gettin old and fergot. Take the grip panels off and don't loe the screw.

I have had good luck with Rem Oil and a lot of folks on here would rather "blast" their Ruger with cleaner than disassemble it.
I also don't agree that it is a terrible chore to strip down and reassemble a Mk series Ruger either.

I think they have changed the formula in the last few years. The original formula was absolute trash.

I don't strip and clean my MK II regularly. I clean it when it starts to malfunction. Well, the one time. It was a chore in my book. Some people want to spend their time taking things apart and putting them back together. I don't.

I bought a Mark IV Hunter today. Slickest piece of engineering I've seen next to the Beretta 92/80 series disassemblies. Takedown is effortless and instinctive... Why didn't they do this years ago?
