NEW Ruger Mark IV

Guys Ruger has just come out with a brand new generation of their Mark .22 pistols. Here is a picture of the new Mark IV:

It's supposed to have a bunch of new features, including a one-button takedown method which should make disassembly for cleaning much easier over the Mark III design. I don't believe Ruger has formally announced it on their website yet but they should tomorrow.

Looks like a cool gun, what do you guys think?

Very cool. One button takedown. If you look at the frame, especially the part forward the trigger, you can see it is different. In the rear, there is something that I don't recognize ( in between the top of the grip and the receiver.

Anyway, I will probably buy one somewhere down the road!

A gun that doesn't need a mallet, dowel and a paperclip to take down? What will they think up next?

About time they fixed that abomination. Looking forward to seeing one in person.

Its hinged at the front... The lever at the rear seems to be an ambi safety... or it could be the takedown control.

But I think I see the hint of a "button" at the rear of the frame.

So you push down the button to unlock the rear, and tilt it up on the hinge pin.

Slide out the bolt to the rear, and presto, easy takedown and cleaning.

They should have done this ages ago. The first time I disassembled my MkIII, and went to put it back together, I cussed for half an hour, because the hammer strut got caught and stuck where it shouldn't be... Prevented reassembly.

The old style was never a problem for me, but if a new design helps eliminate all the complaints, Ruger might just have a runaway success on their hands.
Looking forward to seeing one.
Thanks for the tip.

I thank you !!!

I'll be keeping my eyes on this. Thanks for the sneek peak.
Same here and did not see these at our recent G.S. I have followed these models ever since they were issued. It's hard to improve on perfection but they keep trying. Will be interesting to see the price tag. Thanks for the post. ... :)

Be Safe !!!

They're on GunBroker now, $650 - $700 for the Hunter or Target. I'm sure the price will come down, these guys are trying to get top dollar to be the first kid on the block with a new toy.

The Ruger Forum has a picture of the port side of the pistol, and that lever has a twin on the opposite side, so I'm 99% positive it's an ambi safety.

I concur with your guesses regarding what appears to be a takedown button at the rear under the bolt. [ETA: Subsequent pictures from Ruger show that we guessed correctly. :)]

a model IV?

Now I do feel old.

I still shoot my model I in competition.

My daughter has the III and the "improvements" are more moronic than functional.

If the IV makes the take down simple, that would definitely be a big plus.

Good luck, it looks great.

I have MK I and MK II , the guys with MK III's seem to have complaints with some of the features on them.
I wonder if this is an "improved" model to address some of those "don't care for's" or just more unnecessary features ?
Ruger needs to do something about those PLYWOOD grips....call them "laminate" all you want, the truth is they are just plywood and look like 10 miles of bad road.....black plastic looks better ! (excuse the rant)

The magazine safety is mostly a pain due to the need to pull the trigger at different points in the assembly process.

It's not difficult to disable, but it requires a part.

The loaded chamber indicator is just an annoyance mostly, and easy to remove. You can buy a filler plug if so inclined.

This model seems to have done away with the loaded chamber indicator, unless it's moved to the top.

With an easy disassembly process, the mag safety is not much of an issue for me. Though disabling it may improve the trigger a bit.

Sounds like win-win-win. Feeble types who flip out at little machanical things can both flood the market with (phenomenal) earlier pistols AND not buy up these fantastic older pistols on the used market while they funnel their money in to being beta-testers for more "improvements" (bwuhahaha) on lower quality "modern" production guns.

This pleases me... and the folks who won't understand me whatsoever.

So, terrific news.

The one potential downside I see is that I can't imagine that aftermarket uppers for the MkII/III will work with the pivoting takedown.

I could be wrong about this however.

Early prediction on this one, I believe Ruger has done their homework and these will be flying off the shelves with aftermarket support soon to follow.

Sevens,

;) Myself, I'll be looking for a nice 6 7/8" tapered Target Mk II. To go with my 6 7/8" Mk II Government Model.
