new mililitary sidearm...

Berettas

The military contract specified that the military Beretta 92/M9s be US made, and in fact they are made in Maryland (at least that's what mine says on it). I believe Beretta set up a factory just to meet the contract- same way we get Brazilian and Egyptian Berettas, and Argentine Hi-Powers. What's the complaint about "non-US made guns"?

Didja miss my post above about that (go up a few)? Some early contract guns were made in Italy. Most (all?) of the guns that broke in service (6 of the total 18 I know of; some with good mil-spec ammo in as few as 2000 rounds during controlled tests) were made in Italy. The Beretta plant in Maryland was built and operating before the US military contract. Some US military units were using "commercial" Berettas before the contract for the M9 too (not that there is much difference).

I'd like to think that, since your response to my initial post validated every single point I made, that your final statement regarding my being "in the know" was a statement of fact. Unfortunately, given the tone of your post, I cannot draw that conclusion. Bearing that in mind I find your tone insulting and unwelcome.

Having spent a substantial amount of my life in the Navy, training with Seals, and being trained by Seals, I can state unequivocally that you don't have the slightest clue in this regard. You may be well versed in the armaments, but lack knowledge of the practical application of the tools at their disposal. I never stated that I spoke for all of the Seals, only those with whom I am acquainted and any statements I made were obviously in regards to them and their personal preferences. And yes some of those whom I know and of which I spoke do have their Sigs cleaned, oiled, loaded and tucked away in their packs as their backup weapon. I'm not speaking from heresay or what I've picked up out of a regs manual, I'm speaking from personal knowledge and experience.

I and everyone else here who has served are fully aware of what the regs are and what the "official position" of the military is so you can save us all that diatribe. As I stated earlier, you've made my point for me and I'm satisfied with that.

And remember, when you type IN ALL CAPS in any messaging environment, it is typically construed as shouting.
