Never too cold to go to the range

I've been to the range a few times over the last few months with my .22 when it was so cold I left my truck running and would run back to it to warm up while I reloaded.

But it was still fun.

Wymark, I've done that too. Sometimes even take a little extra time and drink some hot chocolate, the hot cup helps with the cold fingers.

You guys are nuts! We've had the mildest winter I can ever remember but the days I would even consider going to the range have been few. A couple times it's was almost 50 and I thought about shooting. That was a far as I got.

peetzakilla, Between shooting and small game hunting it helps pass the winter away in my retirement years. Really the only cold part is reloading clips.

Just catching on to that? ;)

Seriously, peet, it has been nice and warm in the Northeast this winter... around 40 yesterday here in northern VT. Would have been at the range for a bit, but had a stupid meeting at work I had to go to. Sun was setting when I got home.

sparks, you missed a nice day yesterday. I brought my uberti henry rifle .45colt. Shot up 100rounds.i would have shot more but ran out of ammo. Guess i'll be loading today.

That's when the utility is pretty nice, leave the truck running, put the tailgate down, heater on high, and there's a nice warm breeze blowing across your reloading bench (try doing that with a hybrid - hehehe). Oh wow, should have thought of this before ... next time I'm bringing one of those Buddy Heaters with!

Beautiful day here yesterday too. Close to 40 and nice sun. Wish I could have gone out but crazy busy day, was getting dark by the time I got home. Bummer! Only 25 today, 6° tonight. :( Can't wait for March!

Back around December the 1st,,,

I posted the same type of thread,,,
I was gonna go shooting no matter how cold it was.

Imagine a pile of Carhart and blankets,,,
With a rifle muzzle poking out.

I called it my "washday gillie suit".

The only problem I've had with shooting in the cold is trying to reload a mag with numb fingers.

Mechanix gloves. Just enough warmth to keep the cold away and just enough dexterity to load mags. Try it.

I do the majority of my shooting at the state-ran outdoor range. It's $3/hour...unless there's no one waiting, then it's $3 for as long as you want.

So, cold weather makes my $3 go further, because the colder it gets, the emptier the range becomes, thus my $3 lasts me 2+ hours of pure shooting enjoyment. :D

Man, it's been so nice this week that i shot up almost all my loaded ammo, and i've run out of stuff to shoot at. I guess i'll be loading for the next few days.

Shooting is a summer sport for me, reloading, making flintlock rifles and such at the workbench constitute my winter involvement.

When I was in the police academy, we where shooting with snow on the ground and still falling. As the snow would hit the barrel of my revolver, it would steam off from the heat. I said to the guy in line next to me that this was a lot of fun, he was freezing cold and thought I was insane to be having a good time that day. It was by far one of the best days ever at the range.
