Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to view and/or help me.

OK,

Recently i obtained a delivery job at dominoes in the inner city. I see more then a couple shaddy charecters roaming about the streets. I for one do not wish to be mugged since my shift is till close (1 a.m. m-f 3 a.m. sat-sun). Also to incur an auto-loss (which btw is an all black ex-unmarked police car - 80k miles which might or might not deem it worthy of thieving) Anyways i want to share this summerized article: [a pizza delivery man for dominoes had shot a mugger while delivering at the time had quit on the day of the incident, dominoes had said they would of fired him if he hadn't quit - My gut reaction was ( Wow...us your basically telling thieves to mug us at gun/knife point because were ultimatly deemed defensless due to your policies)]

So what i came here for was some advice & insight to my first side arm which im willing to spend 600 on not including licence & permit.

I live in minnasota and i do not know the laws of concealing a weapon.

Theres one gun i fantasise about frequently, the USP .45 w/ 12 clip magazine. But thats a on-going dream.

I do know & like these brands:

H&k
Sig
Berreta
Taurus

If you could share w/ me what gun deems worthyness in the streets aka my situation that would me most appreciated.

In your opinion that is ofcourse

Once again thank you for the time for reading this and hopefully pointing me towards the right path

P.S. Dominoes wont know **** till **** hits the fan.

Ok, serious advice.

First, I wouldn't stop looking for a better job. I know anything is good in this economy, but why put yourself in danger for a company that won't back you?

On the firearm, I'd choose the Barreta or the Sig. Both tend to be very good, and very reliable. H&K's are nice, but I like the other two better.

I won't buy a Taurus. 'Nuff said.

I say get a Glock

They are light weight, easy to handle, reliable..... doesn't matter if it gets a bit knocked around from being shoved down between the seat & console or anything.
You should be able to get a second hand 9mm pretty cheap

Yeah, and get another job

Welcome to TFL, by the way :D

learn, learn, read

Hi, Learn Your own state CCW laws first to see if You qualify to conceal a weapon . Then research what weapon best suits Your needs. But on a Dominoes delivery job I wouldn't carry anything other than a few hundred $ beat up but reliable and functioning revolver, as it could have to be turned in to investigate a self defense shooting or whatever and it would just be emptied and tossed around with indifference around a evidence lock up. Define Your needs then search for a weapon .........WVleo

Sorry i should of mentioned this.

Ive been jobless for 4 months now w/ a total of 30-40 applications filled out, i did not choose this life style because the economy doesn't rest on my hands.

I guess the laws dont really make a difference if Domino's:barf: says you cant carry, you'd get the sack anyway

I guess you're damned if you don't & damned if you do  At least if you do carry corectly as the law allows you, you will more likely be alive to look for another job.... keep looking anyway, I reckon ;)

Oh man, ty tomgun.

I feel so much better that were a castle doctorine as well, but i would never take a life. I would most likely render them defensless via shot to the limbs, and call authority.

Dingo, i would have to ask my general manager if i can get fired for letting a mugger run off w/ there goods. Which would completly be dumb on there half.

If so i would sue the company for endangering my life and depriving me of any defensive measures.

you are in one of the few positions that i would recommend a mid size 9mm glock to. inexpensive, lots of rounds and being the bic lighter of guns--easy to part with if the LEO's take it after you [hopefully never ] need to use it.

I do like glocks, but i hate the fact the 18 c model can only be obtained by special security. Is there a glock that fires 3 round burst or is that only in counter-strike? (epic online game) :D

BTW whats LEO's? authority im guessing

I would also recommend some kind of glock/xd/m&P. glock 19 or 26 would be a great gun. No safety to worry about and its about 99.998% reliable. You just need to find a Carry rig that lets you get to it with one hand easily because you will probably be carrying stuff in your hand for delivery

You need do not know the laws of concealing a weapon in your state and then attend some classes & get the carry card.

That said, Sig Sauer. Colt, Beretta, S&W, Ruger are all good brands & several others.

I don't believe that brands are the problem, you need more gun experience and training.

I know from your question that money is a problem right now, but that doesn't stop you from visiting some gun ranges and watching and asking questions.

If this is your 1st gun, a .45 auto is probably not your best choice - probably a small .357 revolver would be a good starter gun. I own a Glock 26 and that is a good choice also.

You do not need to buy new -visit some gun shows and look for a good used one.

Good Luck.

First if you don't have the brass to kill a bad guy in self defence, or defence of others you should not have a ccw. This isn't the movies. A bad guy that will kill you to take your wallet, car, or family will be even more dangerous if you shoot him/her in the knee. If you do get a ccw permit and carry you then you are in a world of awareness about the public around you. Others count on us to protect them from the bad guys. That is why we are the good guys. Guns are all loaded and should never be pointed at anything you don't want to destroy. If trouble occours we hope to resolve it by holding a BG at bay untill LEO comes to take him away. On the other hand if you shoot a BG to defend yourself and leave them with a perm. disablity your loss of the pizza delivery job will be quite a small problem compared to what some lawer will do to you.

Go take a ccw training course and decide after you have more education. There is a lot of folks that pass the course an never file for a permit.
You asked for help and that is good. Now take the next step and get the education. No matter which way you go you will not be sorry you took one of these classes.

O man i sure hope the mods can handle my crap i post.

And to the above poster, I would not kill due too the fact i believe people can be better in life after knowing there wrong doings and consequences for doing them, and how will i get sued for putting a criminal in a state of disability if i was simply defending myself. Is this some sick demanding of the castle doctorine which forces me to kill?

Im not going to aim for the head unless he/she has already killed someone in the situation.

i do delivery driving for an independent company as a second job. The manager told me no to carrying. The owners exact words were "thats your domain, if you have your license then you are fine" which I do. And then he said "You can't carry in here" meaning the building. I carry when I drive around doing deliveries. It sucks cause I have to dress nice and tuck in my shirt so I usually do the leather jacket with in OWB carry. I still like IWB even with the tucked shirt.
My advice to you is don't carry illegally. Murphy's law is law for a reason. If you can carry in the car, so be it. You should really look at the law about carrying while at work. If it says you don't even need one, then when you are delivering, you are legal.

Out of your choices, I'd stick with Sig and HK. In my opinion, they are far superior to Taurus and even Beretta. While I like Beretta shotguns, I don't care much for their pistols compared to HK or Sig.

Think "concealed" carry. That means that the 12 round .45 probably doesn't fit the bill. There are some compact .45's out there, but I'd probably look at a .40 or 9mm that is compact enough to carry easily. Like others have said, for carry, it's hard to beat a glock 19.

I'm sorry to hear about your tough times. This eco really does stink and probably will get worse. Bravo to you for doing what you need to do to put food on the table.

Carrying a gun comes with a great deal of responsibility. As others have mentioned, before you even consider specific guns, you really should take some courses. It is critical to understand the laws of your state. It is also critical to understand the philosophies and tactics of personal defense. If you choose to ignore either of these components you not only put your life and others in great peril, but you may very well lose your freedom and/or your future fortune.

Best of luck... Be safe... and keep an eye open for opportunities.

Inexpensive (relatively)

You might still be able to find a SIG P6 9mm; these are refurbished P225 single-stack 9mm pistols, that used to be German police sidearms. They used to sell for around $300, but currently seem to be closer to $400.

They are relatively thin, have good DA triggers, are accurate and reliable, and at $200 below your price max, they leave you $200 for practice ammo and a holster.

That said, your best bet is to find gun stores that have rental guns, and shoot a variety to see what fits you best. (After you've done some research and narrowed the field a bit, which I also recommend; then again I'm one of those guys who reads Consumer Reports and Edmunds.com before going car shopping).

I used to deliver pizzas a couple decades ago. Still remember when a friend of mine used a canvas delivery bag stuffed with a six-pack of coke to fend off a mugger, on one of his delivery runs. Smacked the guy in the head. Shortly thereafter, the company changed from canvas bags to plastic sleeves. Cost savings, or an attempt to deprive drivers of a makeshift SD weapon? Hard to say.

Hope you find better work, soon. Pizza delivery has some high risks (muggers and traffic) for very little gain.
