Need help choosing a conceal carry weapon

I am a real fan of the 1911.

I shot my first one in 1970 and I currently own two a Gold Cup and a Briley.

Both function flawlessly with all ammo but my Gold Cup needed work for that to happen.

They are excellent combat handguns but I would not use either one for CCW for all the reasons Jeff22 stated plus I worry about single action Simi Autos for CCW.

If simply had to gave a 45Auto for CCW I would get a Sig220.

If not I would get and practice with 2 S&W Jframes in 38SPL.

Here in TX if you take the test with a revolver with a simi auto it is all you can use so I qualified with my P220.

I don't think I could add very much JEFF22 pretty much
covered it all. I would reenforce what others have said and I
would not select a 1911 type gun for my first carry. I have
been carrying for a long, long time and have been involved
in two shootings (robberies). At that time I carried a Springfield
Armory XD in .45acp. I now carry a Sig Sauer P226 in .357 Sig.
Try some different guns and see what YOU like. Practice with
your chosen gun until you are capable with it. Remember that
it is your life when you pull that gun. Know it well.

I would not recoemd carrying a 1911 platform pistol until one is comfortable with it, and proficient in operating the safty when drawing, and reholstering. I would not advise against buying one at all. Just for the person buying it to be familiar with it before carrying it. I started with carrying a 1911, and I had many years experinence in handling, and shooting one as well.

The Body Guard .380 would more than likely see the most carry duty, even if it were the not the most fired. Light, easy to conceal, and not brutal with recoil. I carry a pocket gun even when I do not have my primary carry gun on me. No worrying about the belt holster or cover shirt. Slip it into the pocket holster, and slip it into my pocket. I am then not leaving the house unarmed.

To the OP. Find a certified instructor near you. Get professional training, and try as many firearms as you can to find out what works best for you. You can get hundreds of opinions on the internet as is demonstrated here. The only one that matters is yours. Good luck in your search.

My choice is Para-Ordnance LTC in the alloy frame
This is a commander size 1911 and loaded at 8 rounds weighs in at 36.3 oz.
