Need advice on CC gun for running?

One option would be a Kel P32 or P3AT worn around the neck with a break-away ball chain. They offer that accessory. I know a few runners who carry in this manner. The polymer frame and a stainless steel slide would limit sweat as an issue. Might be more difficult to not "show" in a very warm climate like Houston where there would be less layers of clothing.

In any event, no matter how carried, my choice would be the P32. I'm a former runner (50 to 60 miles per week at my peak) and never carried, but have a fairly good idea of the issues that would be involved.

Any small gun will work
Go to a gunshop and find one that fits your hand

No one can tell you what YOU will like

I run with a P32 and thunderwear holster.

Where that thing points the gun scares the begeebers out of me.:eek::eek:
I'll take my chances with Glock toe over Thunderwear weenie!

Fanny pack, or PDA case style holster, and one of the many 32, or 380 mouse guns.

al,

I have been running five miles uphills several times a week for 13 years and have found that a waist-pack carrying a small semiauto or revolver works great (most of the time I carry a J frame SW revolver- the 642). I got a small waistpack from Anderson Enterprise (AE) from www.theconcealmentshop.com. Click on their "pistol pack" icon. They have different sizes and colors. I prefer nylon to leather. Good luck and keep running.

best wishes- oldandslow

I'd look at something lighter and compact, a DAO Kahr Arms PM9 or a S&W 642 perhaps, and try to find some way to carry it up higher on my body above hip level. Some people run with hydration pouches, and perhaps there is one with a side pouch or a way to attach a weapon, cell phone, etc.

Camelbak, 5.11 Tactical, and Maxpedition might be good places to look.

In addition to the Pistol Wear products I mentioned earlier, I'll also second oldandslow's recommendation of the AE Pack from The Concealment Shop. That's a good product!

I have something called a Kangaroo holster, use it now and then with a Ruger LCP when bike riding ( Cannondale Quick 6, not Harley :) ). It's kind of a high riding belly band, goes around your chest and has a thin shoulder strap on holster side. Works well. As for retention, several years ago, I wore it with a J frame snubby, on a canoe trip up in Michigan. I managed to tip over our canoe, and between floundering in the water, trying to right the ship, then chase down the cooler full of our lunch.......revolver never moved.....

Don't forget the weight of ammunition. Subjectively I have found that the lightweight J-frame revolver is the easiest to pack when running distances. I really haven't found a good holster for carrying anything, though. The fanny packs will flop back and forth, the SmartCarry/Thunderwear do not go well with my gut (and there is a sharp seam on the Velcro of my SmartCarry in the back that doesn't go well, either), and the belly bands constrict my breathing.

The first thing is to have a gun that is lightweight.

My recommendation is the LCP.

Second is to find the proper holster/system. The Remora is pretty good. then there are belly bands and under garments that have holster/pockets built in.

Bellyband w/P3AT just in front of my right hip bone. Stays put and I also clip a knife on SOB position. Works well for me.

When I run on my own I just carry a knife in my pocket. I've got a young daughter so if i'm pushing the jogging stroller I usually just put a full size pistol in the compartment on the stroller. Not very helpful advice if you don't have small children.

340PD

11.4 oz of 38+P or 357 magnum short barrel in a fanny pack. Anything heavier is too heavy for me to run with.

I'm not running since I got a new knee, but before that I used a Belly-Band with an LCR or M&P Shield. That worked well.

I have a treadmill so I never "need" to run outside, so I cannot suggest a holster.

However, a Smith 642 would be about perfect. It is what I pocket carry for quick errands. Very light.

I run quite a bit too. I have spray but prefer a bit more w/o showing everyone I'm carrying. Carrying something of decent caliber isn't practical for me. I'm 5'11" and 188lbs and like to wear running tanks and shorts only, when nice weather. Winter would provide higher caliber options though.

That leaves with me with the following combo:

Pistol Wear holster - I had to modify to make perfect by simply removing snap that showed through horribly prior (gun is tight and won't fall out due to tension of holster). I then placed a 5x7"ish piece of plastic in front of gun in pocket so zero printing occurs with no added weight. For that, I cut a corner off of a $0.99 plastic cutting mat for kitchen.

Gun- Ruger LCP - It's just the smallest, lightest gun that works without looking like a gun.

If you try that, I know you'll be happy. Ya might be able to get away with slightly larger caliber "pocket" gun like kahr cm9/40 or the like but still to heavy for me. Always thought the double tap ported 9mm might work but heard too many horror stories about 'em...

I see some people running with fanny packs outside their clothes and always assume they have a gun:).

Hope that helps
