Nearly a riot at the local Wal Mart,,,
Okay, maybe riot is too strong of a word,,,
But people were pushing and shoving like in a movie.

All for 20 boxes of CCI Blazer.

I'm serious my friends,,,
I went to Wal Mart to buy a ham,,,
As I walked by the ammo case there it was,,,
Twenty 50 round boxes of CCI Blazer lead round nose.

The lone cashier was at the register ringing up someone,,,
So I left the case and got in line at the register,,,
In most cases people at the register go first.

I get there and tell the guy I want to buy 3 boxes of .22 LR,,,
He starts to go to the case and was literally mobbed,,,
I was reminded of hyenas going after a warthog.

People were shoving each other out of their way,,,
The poor guy almost didn't get the door of the case closed.

He got my three boxes and headed back to the register,,,
Then the hyena pack started crowding behind me,,,
He got on his radio and called for back-up. ;)

He rang up my purchase at $2.47 per box,,,
But wouldn't ring up anyone else until a manager came.

So I stuck around just to see what would happen.

The manager talked to the cashier for a minute,,,
Then told everyone to make a line and he would ring them up.

One man bought his three rationed boxes,,,
Then got rather irate when the manager wouldn't let his wife buy three more.

In one sense it was a sad thing to watch,,,
But the perverse side of me was laughing inside.

I haven't seen this scenario since a Black Friday sale at Toys-R-Us,,,
People were getting in fistfights over the Tickle Me Elmo dolls.

As I turned to leave a gentleman offered me $5.00 each for the 3 boxes I had bought,,,
I turned him down as the boxes I obtained will be Christmas presents,,,
I have a friend with three boys and very little ammunition,,,
These 3 boxes will make me a hero in their eyes.

The regionality of the current shortage is perplexing to me. Our local stores, Wal*Mart and Dick's in particular, have been getting CCI 22LR regularly for a few weeks now and the WalMart cashier told me it doesn't even sell out immediately anymore. Other places, what you saw is still happening. Strange.

Almost spit my coffee out through my nose :)

It makes me wonder if people REALLY need the 22 ammo, or just a quest to find it... Like the tickle- me- Elmo. ?

If you really need , it can be found but maybe not quite as cheap. GM seems to have it pretty regular.

From what I can tell Walmart's distribution system is straight out of the Middle Ages. Corporate sends whatever they want to the stores, regardless of need. They could send ten pallets of .22 ammo to our local store and sell it easily. Instead they send ten boxes. Walmart moves more arms and ammunition than most small countries, you can't make me believe that they can't get more if they want more. Hell, most of they small gun shops are getting some along, even if it is a bit high.

There philosophy may be send a few to keep you conning in to check, with the hopes of you buying something else.
I can assure you there distribution and marketing plan isn't from the dark ages. They are the masters at it. I watched a program how there system worked with All worldwide purchases going into one super computer. It was amazing and as technically advanced as a trip to the moon.

I happened upon some Remington 22 a few weeks ago at Gander, bought my 10 boxes and one box of ELEY (ACK 12.99 for that) but I am trying to find a good load for my K22, but nothing since or anywhere else.

Seems the same few jerks that have been buying everything at two walmarts and selling it on ebay and at local flea markets are still doing it. Sure wish they would price the ammo at 15/box of 50 until those buttheads stop

I don't generally condone being a rat. but some people really have it coming. If you know who they are, why not drop a little tip tot he ATF about them selling ammo without the necessary FFL license. or maybe print up a little cease and decist letter with ATF letterhead and send it to them. :p Might freak em out enough to get them to stop.

They are not doing anything legally wrong. A class 6 license is only required for the manufacture and sell of ammo.

let's see, they're buying up cheap ammo at WalMart or wherever, then reselling it online or at shows for a profit. Sounds like a business to me.

Garycw: Could not resist this when you compared WalMart technology to a trip to the moon. People these days are seldom reminded that the first US lunar mission was done with 60's technology.

If WalMart has the latest, then maybe some of their software was done via 'reverse hacking', so to speak, into the latest Chinese technology which allowed them to land on a nearby planet last week.

Maybe the phrase "ChinaMart" is accurate, after all?

I was at a local store today and found Aguila Eley Prime .22lr sitting on the shelf with not a soul looking at it. A few 500 round bricks for $60 and a bunch of 50 round boxes for $5.99. I can only assume that since it is a new store that the masses haven't found out about it yet. I left it all there.

my local walmart has been getting .22's on occasion, just gotta be there at the right time it seems. Everytime i go i always run back to check. The other week i hit the jackpot and they were stocked up so i was able to buy 3 500 round pacs for like $20 and then had my girlfriend go back and get me some more and some cci mini mags

I have to say that I cant believe the childishness of the .22lr shortage. It never fails any lgs or box store im in if they sell guns inevitably there will be four or five people come up and ask for .22. It seems no one can wait to pay exorbitant prices for something if they know its in short supply. I think if I put it out there that there would be a shortage of toilet paper there would be riots in the stores over that as well.

I stopped at my local shop last evening, in an effort to pick up some 38 ammo. Shelf was empty but I did spy some 22 lr in stock. At $100 / brick I decided to pass

Post #3. It's the hunt, the ooohh I gotta buy it, even though I have some.
Tickle - me - ammo :)
I think this will continue, and partially make the problem go on longer.
