My first 1911,a Springfield Armory.Whats your" first 1911."

My first 1911A1 I reported on earlier, a Remington Rand from DCM in 1963 for $15.00 + $2.50 shipping by Railway Express. My last GI 1911a1 is a pristine Colt 1944 issue that I received in trade for an original M1A1 Carbine stock a few years ago. This pistol appears to have all original parts and shoots as good as it looks. Since then I have purchased another Remington R1’s, a Star Model P 1911 clone ( excellent shooter) and a new Colt 1911a1 that my best friend gave me for Christmas.

I bought my Springfield Armory mil spec M1911 a few months before they folded and had to reorganize. I think that was around 1990. From what I understand these older models used Brazilian forgings and were machined in the US. Mine had a bad habit of hitting me in the head with ejected cases until I tuned the ejector a bit. changed out a few bits over the years. A Chip McCormick sear, a beaver tail grip safety and a few other SS bits make the black oxide finish pop...

My first? A Rock Island GI. I really hated it even though it went bang every time. The sights were abysmal.

I bought a Dan Wesson Valor for my bday several years ago. Enjoyed it, it was a sweet shooter, but not enough to keep it.

My first was a Colt Combat Commander, all steel 4 1/4" barrel. Dan Wesson wasn't around back then and I could barely afford what I got. If it were today I'd save up for a DW, not a doubt.

I've only owned one 1911, and still have it: SR1911. A fine piece of a shooter. It eats anything its fed, and asks no questions:

Thanks May take you up on that - I just got my first 1911 - a second hand Remington 1911 R1. I haven't put much down range on it yet but what I have has functioned really nice, but am looking for working ideas on aftermarket items like trigger upgrades, etc. for this model. Serial starts with RH - also my initials lol, so its already a bit sentimental. Petty I know.;)
