For those who think that full house custom 1911 are not worth the price of 5000 dollars
you may be right, but then you may be wrong, considering the man hours that go into
a full custom, i think it is well worth it. I have 7 of these customs, and regardless if there worth it or not is not the point, people like myself can afford the best so we buy the best. I drive a
450,000 Lambourguine, sying that would a cheap Corvette take me anywhere i wanted to go.
sure it would, but i can afford a Lambo. The point im making here is do not knock aa expensive product like a full house custom 1911, just because you cannot afford it, so you
make excuses somehow its over priced.

If it's not 4WD, it's just your basic transportation to me.

(sorry, just kidding... couldn't help it...)

I ain't laughing.
Many of my shootin' irons have been inexpensive odd balls.
The 1911 I now use the most is a Colt......
A Colt licensed KWC airsoft. :)

My 1st 1911 was a SA Range Officer. I have since traded it for a Colt XSE Government Model Stainless. I have also added a SA Loaded Target 9mm

I had a firestorm government model a few years ago. I only shot a couple hundred rounds through it but never a hiccup and shot where I pointed it. It cost me $275 iirc.

1943 Remington Rand, followed very quickly by a blued Delta Elite and SR1911.

My first 1911 was a Kimber Pro Carry II. Loved that gun, 100% reliable out of the box, very accurate, and easy to carry. I had to sell it to help pay some of my wife's medical bills, she had Parkinson's Disease. I bought another Pro Carry II when finances allowed and had the same good luck with it. Then had to sell it a couple of years later to pay more medical bills!! Have had 9 other 1911s since then. My wife passed away 4 years ago. I'm down to 3 now, a Colt XSE LW 45ACP Commander, STI Ranger II all steel 45ACP Commander size, and a Ruger LW 9mm Commander. I love the 1911 platform!!!:D:D

My first one was a Colt GM, 70 Series, in electroless nickel, hard chrome, whatever that was they put on them back then. It was a dull shiny color, with black Pachmayr grips. That was during my IPSC phase, when I was under the spell of Jeff Cooper and his crowd. :) I had my one and only stupid discharge with that gun. Praise the Lord, no one was hurt and no damage was done and a lesson was learned.

My first was a Kimber Compact Stainless II .

Like Cajun I had my first and only ND with it and I am so glad it was pointed at the ground . I never thought that would or could happen to me , especially at my age . That was also my first semi pistol .

2nd : Dan Wesson Pointman 9
3rd : Springfield TRP - didn't like the sharp front strap .
4th : Ruger SR1911 - bought used at a great price , traded for 3" sp101 .
5th : Ruger SR1911 - bought used at a good price , sold to buy the Colt .
6th : Colt 70 series

The only ones I still have are the Colt and Dan Wesson .

My first was an ODI Viking Combat back in the early '80s. ODI's claim to fame was that their guns came from the factory with Seecamp double action systems. I bought another one a few years ago in a fit of nostalgia, it was exactly as bad as I remembered.:D

Want to add that this has been a pretty entertaining thread. I have several custom Colts that were built by well known and unknown gunsmiths. I'm not sure who will build my next custom but I sure do know who it won't be.

Anybody else have a hankering for a plate of Lambourguine with clam sauce?;)

When I was a young man, my dad offered to buy me a gun for my birthday. We went to a gun show and I picked out a 1911. My dad thought that was "too much gun" for me at that age, and made me pick out something different. :(

I eventually got around to buying my own 1911, but it was many years later. I picked out a Springfield Armory GI model. I bought it at a gun show, and within the hour, some skeevy-looking guy tried to buy it from me. At the gun show. Without seeing what was in the case. In spite of the fact that there were probably 500 just like it within 100 feet of him . . .

I got to shoot it once. Three weeks later, someone broke into my house and stole it. :( I still check the inventory on every search and seizure incident report that crosses my desk to see if, by some chance, it shows up.

GI Remington, bought in the mid 60s from a pawn shop for $40. Polished it up and had it blued (I know ruined it), shot it a bunch early on with the plastic grips. Haven't shot it in recent memory. Put the Colt grip panels on it several years ago.

Brings back a lot of fond memories.

First 1911

My first was a Kimber Custom that I bought new in 1999. Still have it. Then came, in order, a Colt Series 80 Gov't, Colt Commander, SA GI, and last an SA Ultra Compact. All in .45ACP. I still have all of them but the SA GI is on a long term (probably terminal) loan to my son.

The Colt Commander is the best looking but the Kimber is definitely the most accurate of the five.
