How are the .357 loads in the Ruger SP101?

pacer, I shoot about half .357s in my SP101; from WWB and American Eagle range stuff to more serious SD ammo. It is a small revolver, so I wouldn't call it comfortable, but you DO get used to it. Also, the SP101 is beefy. Those extra ounces help a lot with recoil. It's a non-issue for me.

If your primary intention for a .357 is range use or HD, then I'd recommend a GP100. But for CCW and range use, the SP101 is a great choice.

Second on the CZ, I'm very pleased with my CZ85, 1000 rounds and not a single problem. Also think about a S&W 357, you'll have to go to a used gun to keep it in your price range but there are some out there.

glock 23 cause you can swap the barrels and shoot .40 .357 sig and 9mm and if you buy one used you can afford the other two barrels then you have 3 new toys for your birthday! or ruger sp101 cause there fun to do a trigger job on like getting a model kit when your 9 years old!

John thanks for the link. Rich thanks for the advice!

To everyone else, Thank Ya'll as well!

To the G30sf suggestion, I put the G36 up because it was considerably thinner than the 30sf. I have smaller hands and figured the 36 would fit me better, albeit with a lack in capacity.

Please keep the advice coming! :D

The new Stoeger Cougar .45 ACP is looking suh-WEET. I'd check it out. It might save you enough for a holster and ammo to boot. :)

I voted for the SP101. The other two semi-auto caliber really aren't going to give you all that much that your .40 won't, so it's time to add a .357 revolver for some variety.

Well it is looking like its coming down to either a G19 or an SP101. Luckily I still have a couple of weeks before I have to make up my mind.

Any further advice is always welcome :D.

Don't get a G19. I bought a G26 first b/c I wanted to shoot 9mm. Then I found out about the caliber conversions.
As someone else said get a ?G22?(the 40SW equivelant). You can spend $100 more and get a 9mm barrel or 357 sig. You will regret not having that flexibility down the road.

thanks dakota, my only reason for getting a 9mm glock instead of a 40, is that I already have a M&P 40 so i could get a .357sig conversion for it. But I wont rule out another 40 one day. I just want to diversify a little bit.

Does anyone own a G36, and another .45 gun as well? If so, how does the recoil of the two compare?

Truthfully my only reservation about a .357mag, is the fact that I have a pacemaker, and while only in my early 20's I have had one since I was 7 weeks old. I have had to have many a surgery(and almost died when I was a baby, and when I was 14, the latter of which I still remember and it was not fun), and will continue to have many surgeries for the remainder of my life. But I dont want to cause any un-neccessary stress to my shoulder, that would strain my pacemaker, and possibly jerk the wires out of place. If the wires jerk out of either my pacemaker or heart then I am screwed . So I would prefer not to risk it. So if the .357mag is too powerful then I will stick to regular rounds.

So with that info would any of you suggest the 9mm or .45acp instead of the .357magnum?

I voted "other" just because I've only shot two Rugers and couldn't hit anything with either, and the only Glock I shot was so uncomfortable it hurt my hand.

S&W revolvers (or a used snake...) S&W, SA or Colt Auto's...
