And I need help choosing my next gun. I have already decided that I want either a 9mm, 45acp or a .357mag/.38spl. My budget will probably be under $600.
The models I like are the Glock 19, Glock 36, Ruger P95, or Ruger SP101. If you choose other, please offer an alternative suggestion for the price range mentioned above.

Thank You all very Much!

By the way I already own a .40s&w and a .22lr.

If you don't have one, I'd look at the CZ-75 series.

Great guns, and should be within your budget.

But I can't pick your weapon for you, so choose what feels best to you.

I personally like the M&P series from S&W. Nice gun you can get it in 9mm 40S&W 357 and 45.

If I remember correctly, you can swap the barrel in the 40 for a 357 sig.

Yeah I already own a M&P 40, and I love it. My best friend has a Glock 23 though, and after seeing the G36, am torn between a Glock, or a Ruger. I guess the Glock bug might have bitten me .

If I were to get a revolver, I'd get either the Ruger GP-100 4" Stainless, or the LCR snubby. For a polymer pistol, you can't go wrong with the Glock 19. My preference is the M&P line; either would be a good choice.

Also, what are you buying this gun for? Concealed carry/home defense, plinking, filling an empty spot in the safe etc.?

I want an additional caliber/gun for Concealed Carry and Home Defense. Right now I own a M&P 40, and a little .22.

So I would like to add a 9mm, 45acp or .357mag to my lineup, one gun at a time. I put the SP101 up instead of the GP100, because it is much smaller and would give me another option to CC.

Thanks for the help, and keep it coming if ya'll don't mind.

pacerdude, I chose the SP101.

I didn't choose the Glocks because you already have a semi-auto (and I don't like Glocks :p ).

The P95 is a fine gun but is not as suited for CC as the SP101. Plus, you already have an auto, and the SP101 will widen the range of your collection.

The SP101 is a cool gun. It's my daily CCW. The ammo selection is great and I feel comforted knowing that I've got .357s in those cylinders.

Also, IMO, the SP101 has the most personality of any of the guns listed. It's attractive and functional. Come to think of it, it's the only attractive one of those listed! :D

Get a 45. You may be able to find a nice used Sig P220 for under $600. Or you could get a new Glock 21 or 30.

Might we ask what your intended use of the gun is? Will it be a personal carry gun, a target plinker, or just general home protection/recreation shooting?

The size and caliber of the gun may vary based on its purpose.

For carry guns, I have the Glock 36 and Sp101, both of which are my choices for carry of my collection. They are great shooters, small and light enough to conceal comfortably, and handle extremely well.

For larger guns, if you don't necissarily want a sub-compact for carry, CZ-75's, 1911's and Highpowers are all classics that are hard to beat. Or, if you like revolvers as much as many of us, a good Smith K-frame or Ruger GP101 are fantastic guns.

For caliber, I always prefered .45acp, .45LC, .357/.38 and 10mm. The 10 is a bit hard to find, though, and is best left for reloading. I am very impressed with the new .327FM, and would suggest looking into one of the guns available in it. Ruger's SP101, and new GP101 and Blackhawk all support the .327, and most other manufacturers are putting out guns in it as well.

Of your specific choices, though normally averse to "just" 5 shotters, I selected SP101 for the reasons others have mentioned. I'd shoot +P .38s as a regular/HD diet, advancing to .357 for serious "social" duty and trekking (mountain lion, drugged 2 legged varmints etc).

Alternate choices: Same SP in new(ish) six shot .327 Fed Magnum.- as something different and certainly interesting. Regularly shoot H&Rs as the .327's "special" equivalent. Early reported teething problems and ammo/components slow to the market a detractor, but here for the long haul I think and a perfect match of cartridge and platform IMO.

Also, a Rossi 461/462 .357 snub--6 shots in a similar size to SP (J+/Detective Special/D-frame(ish), with far more good reports coming in vs bad, including a recent, surprising report on one of these or other forums of moderate recoil even with 125 gr .357 . Must be the grips--and, like the SPs, steel construction doesn't hurt either. Like any of this type snub, I'd shoot mostly .38s/+Ps in it anyway to prolong gun life and keep the obnoxious level down, but nice to know you can "go magnum" if needed. These are a real buy. (you'll hear a lot of kneejerk negatives about Rossis, 15% (maybe) of them with *actual* modern-Day Rossi experience),

Also, a nice used pre-lock K 3" .357 (65 or 66)--my choice, 65LS ("Lady Smith") as the best of the bunch IMO. This is up there near, at or beyond your $ limit. But, they're a real gem. Like all Ks, regular diet should be limited to 158s vs 125s.

I voted SP101. I thought I would be in a small minority and was surprised to see it was leading. Only gun there I have much interest in. I am more interested in a snub GP100 or LCR to be honest. My 6" GP100 is just on hell of a gun and the LCR would be a nice light carry gun. Someday maybe I will own an LCR, 3", 4", and 6" GP100, a couple of Redhawks, and a blackhawk or two.

I would get a G26/27 before a 19 or 36.

I don't like the Ruger semi-auto centerfires even though I love pretty much every other one of their firearms. They just seem clunky which I don't want in a semi-auto pistol.

Springfield XD in lieu of Glock. Equal/Better quality. Higher Capacity. Superior ergonomics.

Outside the box, a SA cowboy revolver just for fun.

SP101. I've fallen in love with Ruger revolvers lately. They're simply amazing. The .357 magnum is possibly the best SD cartridge out there.

Thanks guys...A couple of questions.

1) I have smaller hands for a guy would this be problematic with a Beretta 92fs? I have not had a chance to hold one yet.

2) How are the .357 loads in the Ruger SP101?

3) How heavy is the CZ 75, and is it very big? I have not held a full size one, only the compact model.

I might have more questions later, but I think that is it for now.

Thanks for the early birthday wishes! I just want to get my research done, before I go in looking for a gun.
