My 68 y/o neighbor saved by his Sig

I'm proud of that old guy. Most others would have gotten scared and run off, or rather, tried to run. They likely would not have made it.

Also, the fact that he's been carrying all these years and even you didn't know speaks volumes. Speak softly but carry a big Sig!

My guess is that the sheriff knows that he will not be able to get the guys sent to jail for what happened. 4 words against one. They could accuse the old guy of brandishing. Its very difficult to get someone put in jail for threatening behavior. That's why it would have been an excellent time to put a bullet in the guy approaching with the pipe. Glad he's ok, but I wish he would have cleaned house. Hard to blame him tho, as he followed the law and stood down when the threat backed off.

Someone want to send this to Diane Sawyer? She said that despite a lot of research, they never found any evidence of guns benefiting citizens.

Happy Endings

Glad to hear that your friend and neighbor came out okay. sounds like a tough old bird, and i bet he changed those hoodlum's ideas of what a safe victim looks like!

As sad as it is that we have to be constantly prepared to defend our lives and our possessions from criminal animals, the good guys come out on top a surprising number of times. I love the Armed Citizen section in my American Hunter mag. just tons of good people, making it hard for a criminal to earn a decent living.

Really? My guess is that this 68-year old man's word is FAR more trustworthy than those four miscreant's word will ever be...especially since the OP has already stated that the sheriff is already familiar with them and their prior antics. Even if the charges don't stick, their arrest would send them a message that might be loud and clear enough to perhaps penetrate their thick and numb skulls.

Also, it is NOT difficult to get someone put in jail for threatening behavior...in fact it is often far too easy. Granted, it is more difficult to get someone sent to prison for it...but it is not impossible.

I would also submit that the notion that "it would have been an excellent time to put a bullet in the guy approaching with the pipe" shows the pitfalls of armchair quarterbacking and why we as a community should be more prudent in what we think....and write.

Y'all are giving those meth freaks too much credit.
They have no warrior spirit, they are punks.
They won't come back.
Right now, they are talking about "the crazy old man with the pistol."
They are scared.

Seems you are willing to bet the old man's life on that...

No kidding. They should be arrested and spend some time behind bars, give 'em a chance to think about it a bit. Even if the sheriff can't really get them for anything, he can hold them for a day or two anyway.

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. 4 drug addicts attacking an old man with a pipe seems just the time to use a weapon if one is at hand. At least that's the way I see it. If someone thinks that is irresponsible, so be it.

You guys should be more sympathetic to the old guy.

Why do any of you realize the trouble he would be in if he shot?

First off, the ACLU would be on him for not reading rights to the shootees. And even if he did, they would make him prove that they understood by having written waivers of their rights.

Then the EPA would be on him for poisoning these guys with lead, and putting lead into the environment.

Pelosi and Rendell would be all over him for brandishing an 'Assault Weapon'.

Some lawyer for the guys shot would state that they should have recieved drug treatment and not lead treatment, therefore, the old guy would have used excessive force.

CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS would be all over him for murdering young men.

Yep, you guys ought to think of these consequences.

The Doc is out now.

Dang Doc! You sure doing some clear thinkin. He woulda been better off shooting himself and having done with it.

Drug treatment instead of lead treatment...good one.

very true..we call it "the big inconvience". we know they'll be out, our PA won't do much of anything, but at least they spent a weekend waiting.

to the OP, tell that "old" guy good job! way to stand his ground!
