mouse gun for a mouse

The Beretta NEOS might be her best choice,,,

Its for target practice and i wanna keep it at the apartment for just in case.

Seriously my friend,,,
It's got the smallest grips I've ever seen.

It's a superbly accurate pistol on the range,,,
And as a house gun, loaded with mini-mags or stingers,,,
Well I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of a ten shot burst.

It might not be the absolute best gun out there,,,
But I do believe it's the one that will come closest to fitting her.

Believe it or not,,,
The grips are thinner than most mouse guns.

From how you describe her, I think the .32 auto is perfect in size, recoil, and versatility. With enough training, it is an adequate defense round and it's a lot of fun to shoot. Around where I live, it's relatively easy to find and not very expensive. It's a good "Lady-load", for the more petite; but still packs a punch.

I think LT is onto something with the .32 recommendations.

(BTW the bottom pic is of a .32 NAA which is a nice pistol but difficult to get ammo for. The .32acp is pretty much the exact same gun, however, just not as hot a load as .32 NAA).

But, you said the Kel-tec trigger might be too much, so, try out the .32s in that respect, as well.

If it weren't for the terrible trigger-pull, I'd recommend a S&W 317.

Best,

Will

I guess we are all assuming the gun is for carry rather than the range? In that case, the Beretta or the NAA in regular 32 is where I'd start. If it's for the range, I could see a Neos, or a Walther. Actually, the 5.5 Neos could be a bit heavy for some folks, so you may want to look at the 4" barrel. Either one is a tack driver.

I suggest heading out to the LGS and let her hold onto some of these. And, I'd sure try to find a way to let her shoot them. Everybody's different, and everybody likes what they like.

I don't know why I was saying 5.5" barrel,,,

I think I'll chalk that up as a "Senior Moment",,,
The NEOS comes in 6" and 4.5",,,
The 4.5" has better balance,,,
At least in my opinion.

This is absolutely correct,,,
I originally bought the 6" version,,,
I just recently purchased a 4.5" barrel for it.

The 6" felt barrel heavy for me,,,
I'm much more accurate with the new 4.5" barrel.

Sorry for the brain fade,,,

Derringer?,,,

Derringer in .22 Mag!

Reminds me of what I saw just 2 weeks ago.

A young couple in the Evil Pawn Shop was looking at one of those pink derringers in .22 LR,,,
Long story short, she couldn't cock the hammer on the dang gun,,,
I couldn't believe it so when they left I tried cocking it,,,
I'm not a weak guy but it actually hurt my thumb.

I asked the Evil Pawn Shop Guy if I could dry fire it,,,
He said yes and I could barely pull the trigger,,,
The guns in .32 and .38 were the same.

Up until that experience I had considered buying one someday.

2 suggestions

LOVE my KelTec P-32 and my Beretta .22 Wildcat.
Berettas Tomcat might also be a winner but I don't have firsthand experience with it.
Love the KelTec though with extended mag and clothes clip...

have her try a 3" Smith model 60 or Ruger Sp101 if she can handle them start her shootin with 148gr target wadcutters.

Ruger SP101 in .327 Federal. Lighten the trigger with springs from the "Shooters Pack" from Wolff.

Thin and easy to hold on to, heavy enough to soak up a lot of recoil. Also, the .327 gives you ballistic performance approaching .357 magnum levels with only a fraction of the recoil. You pretty much have to reload for it as the cartridge ie relatively new.Due to the smaller round you get SIX shots where you would normally only have 5.

I thought the round was a gimmick until I shot one. Sometimes new tech is a good thing

High Standard Derringers have no hammers. You won't run into that problem with them. My old man keeps one on him all the time. They're actually pretty fun little guns for point-and-shoot accuracy. I've only ever shot the High Standard ones, and I've shot a lot of striker-fired pistols with worse triggers.

Haha well i should have her on here but she really doesnt care about guns at all she just wants to spend time with me doing what i love to do. Shooting is my only real hobby  before me she was a anti gun person but i told her ive dumped girls before for not supporting my passion. At first, every time she saw a gun she would freak out and now shes shooting what she can. guess I did my part in at least changing one mind :D but only if i could get her to shoot my MN 91 that is as long as her haha.
.32 acp or .22 are the rounds i am thinking is the best and honestly i dont wanna spend to much till i get a good idea what she can shoot well (plus i wanna glock 35 ). Are the little Berettas far better than the Kel-tecs? Also is .25 acp a dumb round (ballistically)? myself, i love those little bullets and want to find something I could like as well. sig's and colt's would be awesome but without her holding one im not totally sure it would fit her hand. I have been planning on taking her to the next gunshow so she hand try out a bunch of guns.

Now you've done it,,,

You've started the .25 ACP bashing,,,

Also is .25 acp a dumb round (ballistically)? myself, i love those little bullets and want to find something I could like as well.

I've had a small bit of experience with a Beretta .25,,,
In my not-so-humble opinion I would rather have a hi-velocity .22 LR.

Maybe it was the ammo but my sister's Beretta,,,
Would barely break one of the old heavy Coca-Cola bottles,,,
I've seen many more bottles get knocked down than broken with that cartridge.

It does have a small reliability advantage (theoretically) being a centerfire cartridge,,,
But again I have never noticed any unreliability in quality .22 LR ammo.

The muzzle velocity of a 40 grain CCI Mini-Mag is around 1,235 FPS,,,
The muzzle velocity of a 35 grain JHP .25 ACP is about 900 FPS.

I love the old joke that circulates in these discussions,,,
"Never shoot at a bad guy with a .25 ACP,,,
If you shoot at him, you might hit him,,,
If you hit him, he might notice it,,,
Then you're in real trouble."

But hey, this is America, Home of the Free,,,
If you like the little cartridge you should get a gun to shoot it,,,
Just don't expect a whizz-bang level of performance 'cause it just can't do it.

I'm still standing by my original (emended original anyways) suggestion,,,
Have your lady handle the Beretta U22 NEOS with a 4.5" barrel,,,
Buy her standard velocity ammo for inexpensive plinking,,,
Use CCI Mini-Mags for a bedroom defense handgun.

I head this as,

If anybody shoots me with a .25 auto, and I find out about it, there's gonna be trouble."

.327 Ruger sp101: Want. Very Much.

.22 LR are comparable to if not better than .25 acp? Im not trying to bash the little rounds but in fact I find the little bullets sexy.

Go read:
www.corneredcat.com
and then have her read it.
She will find out that other women actually shoot, enjoy it and do it well.
And she will learn how to pick a gun that will fit her, and that she will actually enjoy shooting.

I gotta go with something she would shoot and not hate because of snappy or nasty recoil.

SP101 has very small grips that I bet would work, and it is heavy enough to damp recoil. regular velocity 38s are very easy on the hands out of it. IF you load your own, you can download them further for cheap practice and her getting used to a little push from recoil. I bet she could work up and be fine with some practice.

I would look at a larger frame gun in an intermediate caliber. Little guns hurt lol.

the airweights and lcr lcp ect are not good ideas imho, especially for something to practice with, and actually use in a serious situation, let alone enjoy shooting lol.
