mouse gun for a mouse

So to start off I need a gun for my girl and it has to be small. Really small! HAHA for real she is 4'9' and her hand is as big as my palm and im not that big. we have been shooting .22s for the most part and the Beretta model 948 was just about right for her hand size but it couldn't be much bigger. Please give me advice on pocket pistols that wont break the bank and can go bang most f the time. like I said .22s aren't out the question and .380 might be a little big.

Have you looked at S&W Airweight revolvers? They also make a Lady Smith that might have a tad smaller grip than a regular S&W.

Have you looked at a Ruger .380 LCP? Those are pretty small pocket guns and I can't imagine that they won't fit her hand.

I would say DON'T expect her to shoot something like an LCP or an airweight revolver - kicks hard, stings the hand and is hard to control, even for big guys. A small but heavy(ier) revolver like a Model 60, shooting wadcutters might be better.

Seecamp?

For a defense gun, you might consider the Seecamp LWS32. The .32 ACP has a relatively mild recoil, the handgun is really small, double action only, so no levers, etc for her to learn, and they are of the highest quality.

I've been looking for handguns for people with smaller hands / shorter finger too.

The subcompact glocks (26,27,etc) always come up as a suggestion.

If you can hold a subcompact glock properly, than you can hold a full sized glock as well.

The distance from the back strap of a Glock 26 to the trigger is the same distance for the Glock 19 and the Glock 17.

Hi CLC-members gave you some good info,my wife is also small & height challenged, she HAD to have the Walther PPK/S&W in 380.She loves it and has NO problems EXCEPT it's difficult for her to "rack"a round- I wanted her to get a BERSA (easy on the wallet&and great looking) So please don't overlook Bersa.(haven't got one) but do have a couple of nice little semi-autos (just for fun) For protection IMHO I like a much BIGGER BANG
25 Colt Vest Pocket, 22 Beretta Minx Good Luck & let us know what you do

a Glock 26/27 would be to big, like someone said same size as a full size Glock.
the Ruger LCP if it fits would be better, safe to carry with one in the tube.

(anyone else think LCP - Liquid Crystal Pistol?)

Go Glock

If she is small, you definately want something that will put someone down fast. The Glock 33 is what I carry and my teenage daughter who is 5 foot can shoot it accurately. The 357 Sig round is a beast, but very controllable for any shooter. Plus if she has a small hand she can get all of her fingers around the smaller grip. I have gorilla paws so it is not the case for me!

Agreed. I have large hands, yet I have no trouble shooting my Glock 26. I doubt a tiny hand would be able to hold one very well.

I bought a Taurus PT-22 for my wife for her tiny hands. It would have been perfect, other than RA has pretty much destroyed her hands for anything. One of these, or better yet the Beretta with the tip-up barrel that Taurus copied, would probably be nice for her. I love mine, carried it some, but it's now relegated to fun status only as my BUG is a P32.

I know that they are not out yet but if you can wait a few more weeks the ruger lc9 might fit the bill. It is slightly larger than the lcp so it should handle better, and it weighs twice as much so it shouldn't kick too bad. It also has 3 dot sights so it should be more accurate than the lcp

Thanks for all the help guys. Its for target practice and i wanna keep it at the apartment for just in case. I dont know what it is but it seems her hands are unusually small or her fingers are short. I have several pistols but my Ruger single six is the only one she can shoot but it takes both her hands to hold it up and its a little long for her same with the Ruger Mark II. Also no go on my S&W 39 and also a Remington 511 rifle. It kinda sucks because her hand wouldnt fit a walthers either. Trigger pull started to get me thinking also. Kel-Tecs seem to fit the bill but its like 10 lb pull.

The tiny mass of a lot of pocket guns will really accentuate recoil, even in mild cartridges such as a .380ACP. If she's new to shooting, I'd stick with a .22 if possible. As someone mentioned earlier, the Beretta NEOS has a very narrow grip. In fact, for me, it's the biggest drawback to the gun because its too small for my hands.

Granted, a .22 isn't a great choice for defense, but it's good (and cheap) to learn with and could help her learn to handle more powerful guns down the road.

Take a look at a Colt Commander or Pony. My wife and daughter both have small hands and have trouble pulling the slide back on a Walther PP so I got both a Colt and they don't have any trouble racking the slide, the recoil is not bad, and they are accurate. Not the cheapest but when it comes to PD I want them to have something I know will work and they can handle.

I would consider what 2cooltoolz said about the .32 acp. or the .22. The .32 might be the ticket for her. Maybe consider a larger .32 if there is such a thing.

Most all the guns recommended here will do. In my opinion get a 9mm or a .38 since a .380 auto is the generally recommended minimum for self defense. My wife is no sumo wrestler by any means and she shoots a S&W Model 19

If she likes the Single-Six, a Bearcat would probably be a perfect match. May take some looking to find one, though.
