What would you classify as the most under-rated and most over-rated pistols?


Under-rated (no particular order):

CZ's
Ruger P Series

Over-rated(no particular order):

S&W 3rd Gen
Colt 1911's
Most 1911's (out of the box)
Sig Sauer P Series

Underrated (or more accurately, under-appreciated):

Star Firestar and Ultrastar

Not too many people carry one, but those who do swear by them.

Overrated:

Kimber

Nice 1911 derivatives, but I am not convinced that they're so much better than anything else to justify a sticker price usually asked by fancy German Wunderpistolen.
 
Under: Stars and FEG's (usually workmanlike and quite reliable, if homely)

Over: Hi-Powers and CZ-75's (nice pistols, but not the super death-rays some would like me to believe)
 
Most under-rated:

Makarov's and Beretta's (These never get the attention they deserve)

Most over-rated:

Glock's and Kimber's (Place Tamara's 'death ray' quote here)

Just proves you can get a 100% reliable and accurate pistol for less than $1,000.

Most under-rated pistol...Makarov, CZ75, Ruger P-series
polymer, Kel-Tec P-11 and Bersa .380...
Most over-rated pistol... CURRENT Les Baer 1911's, Glock, Sigs in .357 Sig and .40, Walther P99, ANYTHING built by Wilson Combat...there you have it!!!....mikey357
 
I would definitely put the CZ-75 in the underrated category. I think there is a lot higher recognition of the CZ in the on-line shooting community than in local shop-talk. All of my interactions with local gun shops ("local" meaning both Central IL and Suburban Chicago shops) prove to me that no one knows anything about the CZ. Most people haven't heard of it... even those people on the sales end of the counter (and, mind you, I'm talking about medium to large size gun shops, not chain department stores).
 
Most overrated:

Glocks. They're okay, but nothing all that special.

Most underrated:

First: J. M. Browning's 1911. More alterations to the basic design than Carter's got liver pills and it still works.

Second: Smith revolvers as defense guns.

Im not saying the over rated ones shouldnt be. They are all fine pistols.

Im AM saying the under rated ones should be as over rated as the over rated ones. They are just as good. In their own ways.

Go ahead, read that again. It makes sense. I swear!

That's the way I see it shaping up folk's.:D Just my opinion, what's your's?:)
