Most ridiculous mark up you've seen?

Inspired by what I saw today at a LGS and the other thread about gun values...

I happened through a LGS today before lunch, the prices were mostly just a tad on the high side as one might expect at a small brick and mortar shop, but one item stood out greatly. They had a Sig sp2022, price tag....$850 I was flabbergasted that in the day and age of the internet that it would even be possible to move it at that price, particularly when other shops in the area carry it for $400-500.

What is the most ridiculous mark up on a new firearm you've seen?

It wasn't on a firearm, but Cheaper Than Dirt marked up MagPul 30 rounders to something like $40 after the election. If that wasn't bad enough, they claimed (lied) the MSRP was like $50, so you would still "SAVE 20%!!"

I don't shop there now.

edit: Here it is. I was wrong - they claimed "List Price" was $60 so they could still claim you were saving.

Everything after the election. $2000 for a Colt HBar. $800 for a underfolder AK.

And don't get me started on the ammo shortage... Drive for an hour just to buy 200 rounds of 9mm because each store has a one box per day policy.

The most ridiculous I've ever seen is a tie between two boxes of ammunition: Armscor .380 Auto 95gr FMJ for $49.99 per box and CCI Blazer Brass 9mm 115gr FMJ for $29.99 per box both in January of 2009. The most ridiculous I've seen on a firearm was $600 for a Llama .45ACP pistol (don't remember specifically what model).

Highway robbery

I was at the Novi Michigan G**der M**n*ain and they were selling a used Kahr CM9 for over $500 thats more than you pay for a brand new one! UNBELIEVABLE! Ive seen spankin new ones for $450 at other local dealers.

Right now as I type this, there is a KelTec Sub2000 9mmGlock NIB on auction current bid of $465 on the front page of Buds. Buds has has them listed out-of-stock for about a year now for $280. I know that up until about 2 months ago I was seeing them at local gunshows for $300.

I know that's not the most ridiculous amount of money... who the hell would pay $465 for one of those?

I was at the New Orleans gunshow this morning and saw an IO Hellcat with a $299 tag on it.

The one that I remember most was a Ruger Mini-14 for something like $1250.00. I think I finally got mine for $725.00. I don't know if that's high or not, but I know it's better than 1250.00.

You ain't seen...

...nuttin' yet.

Cabela's, at Hammond, Indiana, has a S&W Model 28-2, 4" barrel, and Hogue grips. The gun has been redone to a "brushed" nickel finish. The Florida State Highway Patrol did buy about 25 nickel Model 28's in the late 1950's. There are also five made up for Adolph Blaick, Inc., as sales samples in brushed nickel. This isn't one of them though.

Now, you'd expect not to pay more than about $350 for this Frankengun. Not so with Cabela's. Their price tag? - $1,249.99!!. Such a deal!

Note the rounded edgings on the stampings.

I sent them an email the day I saw it on their site (11/14/2011). Gee, no response yet!

This is the one I'm still scratching my head about......but glad I found it. Feel sorry for all the others who paid that "ridiculous" marked up regular price.

My local Sportsmans Wharehouse has some Winchester .454 Casull brass, $82.99 per bag...........the bag of Starline .454 Casull brass (same piece count as the Win) sitting right next to it is $38.99.

The local Cabelas has several Marlin 336 rifles in .30-30 marked from $750 to $825. Kmart and Walmart are selling the same rifles for $399.

Holy crap!! Did you actually get it for that price?

It was the days of cheap surplus 7.62x25.

This one shop had Bulgarian 16 round packs for $8 or $9 each when it was several times cheaper everywhere else.

With deals like that, I try not to go that shop if I can help it.

10/22 with "tacticool" folding stock and 5 billion round magazine for only $999.00 at a dealers table at the last knife, candle, candy ,toy, book, gun parts show I went to.

This was a Gunbroker auction from April 2009, at the height of the ammo panic. The item in question was 50 rounds of Blazer .380, starting at $90:

It went over $100. This guy was doing it pretty regularly. Then there were the folks selling $700 AR-15's and WASR/10 rifles at the gun shows for $2000. One guy was selling regular capacity pistol magazines for more than twice market value. These weren't individuals; they were dealers, one of whom maintains a very prominent online business.

The rationale? THE BAN IS COMING! To this day, I have no idea what "ban" ever came to justify that.

That's about the time I really started to dislike the gun culture.
