Most durable revolver?

I have a 30 year old S&W 686; and a 28 year old 686.

I'm 50 and healthy, but they'll both outlive me by a long shot. I can't hardly imagine a more durable gun.

Ruger Single Actions.....check the reloading manuals, there are no special high power loads for Smith & Wesson or Colt, but there are for Rugers

An 800 dollar bullett proof revolver?

I suggest a 4" S&W Model 66 in Stainless Steel. Many a LEO trusted these revolvers and they do appreciate in value. Get one if you can.

There are a lot of S&W revolvers out there ( K frame model 19's or 66's ) --- ( L frames model 686's ) --- or ( N frames model 28's - maybe a model 27 in that budget range )....all in .357 mag ....but they're all double action revolvers...

If you want a single action in that price range...probably the Ruger..

I'm probably looking more for single action cowboy style revolvers. I've got pistols for times when I want rapid fire.
Like some I actually read your entire post, and am not mentioning, or posting pictures of double action Smith and Wessons.
I am in agrement with those others who did read the whole post, and suggested a Ruger Single action.
A Blackhawk model if you want modern adjustable sights. A Vaquero for more of a traditional "cowboy" look with notched frame fixed sight.

While he said he preferred a S/A, he didn't rule out a D/A....

BTW - speaking of S/A - there's always the old Interarms Virginian Dragoon.
Quite a few people claim they are superior to the Ruger S/A in every regard.

I'd love to make that claim - but - the ejector rod on my blew off.
That was back in my "Atomic load" days.
Since I had no Ruger at the time to compare those types of loads to, and, by the time the Rugers I own came along I'd outgrown that stage, I can't say for sure if it's tougher or not.

They are hell-for-stout though....

You can't eve go by that anymore since even a Ruger can't take a Ruger only load....;)

Seriously though - that doesn't mean anything.
Magnum Research & Freedom Arms both make fine revolvers that can take those "Ruger Only" loads.
Or are you saying since they aren't listed, they aren't as strong as a Ruger?

they are both a lot more money than a ruger

Ruger hands down if you want single action and durable. Myself, I wanted a Colt SAA clone so went Uberti in 45 Colt using lighter cowboy loads.

SA/DA then S&W.

Durable Revolvers

Single Action-Ruger Blackhawk
Double Acton-Ruger Speed Six-I carried it as a duty gun for many years and it was dropped on concrete a few times-never misfired-made a good blackjack also :D

Depends on how you use it. In Fast and Fancy Revolver Shooting McGivern has pictures of one hole targets fired out of S&W K-22s with over 200,000 rounds through them. The Old Rule is light target loads are easier on a handgun than hot ones, lead bullers easier on a barrel than jacketed ones.
