Most durable revolver?

If you guys had 800 dollars to spend, which revolver would you buy and why? I'm probably looking more for single action cowboy style revolvers. I've got pistols for times when I want rapid fire. Probably durability is most important to me. I might not even get a revolver, I might just save my money. Anyway, which revolver would you buy of all the revolvers for under 800 dollars?

For pure durability, any of the Ruger SA revolvers. (Some would advocate for Freedom Arms guns but the $800 limit rules those out by a lot.)

The S&W model 10's are pretty tough and bullet proof. Used to use the butt for a hammer sometimes at work in the 70's

SA: Ruger Blackhaw

or

Magnum Research BFR (should be right at your $800 limit)

DA: Ruger Redhawk

Now if yow want to spend over $1k look at Freedom Arms

IIRC, the Freedom Arms guns can run well over $2k, a lot over $800.

I agree that S&Ws are good rugged guns, but they do have more parts and potentially things to go wrong than a Ruger SA. For DA revolvers, I think it is a tossup between Ruger and S&W for ruggedness, but the Ruger is not as smooth or refined as the S&W.

I just bought one of the Lipsey's Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley 44 mag with 3.75" barrel, and it just has the feel of solidness and durability. I have not fired it yet, but I have no doubt that it will be plenty strong. I paid $599.00 plus shipping for it, so in my mind that was quite reasonable for a quality single action. jben

I gotta say +1 on the Ruger as many have already said. I am a huge Smith and Wesson fan, but for all out durability, go with the Ruger. (I own a Vaquero and 3 Smiths if that tells you something)

Another option is a S&W in one of the Mountain Gun models. There are a variety of calibers, and I like mine in .45 Colt.

price range

without a doubt for single action Ruger Blackhawk over all other, for feel you may like the vaquero (fixed sights). Uberti looks and feels more like a colt.
For double action Smith makes a nicer gun. the 66.
However the gp 100 is sweet.
I own two blackhawks and like the 4 5/8" barrels. they feel very different from the 6".
I believe you could beat an elk to death with a Blackhawk and it would still fire.(not that I would).
Also check out the .41 magnums. The .357/9mm convertible is cool too.

Easy answer. In that price range, Ruger gets the nod for sure.

For single Action, the Blackhawk / Super Blackhawk. For double action, the Redhawk /Super Redhawk.

Ruger Blackhawk .45 Colt/.45 ACP, approaching the 20,000 round mile post:

They don't come any better at any price.
