Most accurate Rimfire rifles at reasonable prices ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ???

My 60+ year old Remington 521T, which my Father bought new in the late 1940s, is still the most accurate .22 I've ever shot. The Remington 5 series of .22s were generally all quite accurate, and you can find them for not a lot of money used.

I picked up a CZ 452 Special last year and I couldn't be happier with it. But mine is ammo sensitive. I zeroed the scope with Wolf and that's all I shoot out of it. I have a Mossberg 144 that likes CCI standard so that's what it gets. After trying a lot of 22s, I've finally decided that accuracy depends more on the name on the ammo box than the name on the rifle.

Being a cheap bastich, I prefer the Marlin 795 for $129 regular price ($99 on sale) with a $25 factory rebate.

Pimpable & 25-rd mags are available thru Shooter's Ridge for about $18 each :)

fullsize

Ramline Folding stock $25

They can only ship to your house if you are a C&R FFL holder.

Doesn't that seem kind of obvious? Why would I be excited about something being C&R unless I had a C&R? I've had one for at least ten years.

IMO, serious shooters and gun people should all have one. If you are a reloader, you will get that $30 back in very short order with all the discounts from Midway, Graf's, Brownell's, etc. Sure, nobody likes "being on the radar" of the alphabet guys but I'm ex-Army, ex-Security Guard with all those background checks, ex-teacher with all of them again, and a ten year holder of a CCW. Not to mention occasionally buying more than one handgun at a time and having to fill out the multiple purchase ATF paperwork. So it seems to me that I'm already on any kind of gunowner list therefore I'm taking the advantages of a C&R and running with it!

if I were to buy a new .22 it would be a CZ. Another very good option is to find a used(the only kind there is) Remington 541. they are very accurate guns. as others have said, to get the most out of them, use good ammo. the best cheap plinking ammo i have found for my 541T are Win. Dynapoints. they are surprisingly very accurate.

It's going to be hard to beat one of these for the money... Zastava Z5, five shots @ 50 yards with federal bulk.. Rifle was $250... I love my savage Mark II and CZ 452 as well..

I use my great grandfather's remington TargetMaster .22lr. It's from the early 1930's I believe, and its one of the best .22's I've shot. He only bad thing is that its a single shot..

When I was looking for a .22LR target rifle three years ago I ended up with a heavy barrel Savage MkII with Accutrigger in the Mako configuration because it was all that was available locally that week. I know people with CZs who love them but I have no experience with them and won't comment or compare. I will say that my Savage has turned out to be everything I sought: highly reliable and highly accurate. I shoot benchrest at 50 yds. and consistently nail the bull with Wolf Match Extra. Count me a happy Savage camper.

Rifle

I have 4 target .22 rifles, all new. Ruger Heavy Barrel Target 10/22 stainless barrel, CZ 452 American w/single set trigger, Savage Heavy Barrel Target w/Accu trigger, Henry Target Single Shot.

All are accurate enough for any real purpose. The Ruger is the most fun and will shoot less than dime size groups at 30 yards with Walmart Auto Match Federal bulk ammo.

The CZ is so accurate it boggles my mind. At 30 yards it will shoot a magazine through the same hole. I do not mean an ENLARGED hole, I mean the SAME hole. The size of a .22 bullet. This is with the Auto Match Federals. I have about ten bricks of expensive match ammo ie Eley, Wolf, Winchester, RSW, Aguila, etc.etc. I've shot very little of it - as the accuracy with the Auto Match is incredible to me. I did shoot some of the Eley and it is insignificantly more accurate at 30 yards. I suspect at 50 yards and 100 yards the Eley and others may be more accurate. I've not shot an Anschutz but if they will out shoot this CZ they have really done something admirable.

Mes I also buy a bunch of Walmart's Federal Auto Match 'bulk pack' value 325 round bricks. To me it's quite a step up from other bulk packs, even the Federal 525 packs (which are decent deals at 19.99-22.99 but great at $15 right) - the AutoMatch comes in at $.046 a round. CCI MiniMags come in at $.0647 a round. Now I will stipulate (and I would surmise others agree?) MiniMags are great ammo and better than AutoMatch (MiniMags are my favorite ammo and anything CCI is my favorite brand) ... and my 3 rimfires just keep getting better when you increase the ammo quality. But AutoMatch really makes my two semi autos, the Remington 597 and the S&W M&P 15-22, shoot very fast, very reliably, and very accurately. And my bolt action and most accurate, the Savage Mark II GXP, shoots the AutoMatch very accurately too... so it's a great great all around deal for me.

I would also add, I've not shot stuff like "Wolf Match Target" which I've read is just so much bomb diggity, or anything really high end, but I've not had the need really. MiniMags are about as luxurious as I've ever needed , and CCI is always been my preferred brand. Please feel free to school me on other good ones...Jjust don't let the brand be Remington, which I believe is so terrible rimfire-wise it should be antitrusted or class action lawsuit cleaned up. I've wasted boxes of it, just doesn't shoot.

From the title I was going to say any thing in a 17 HMR.

If you are looking for a 22 I would go with a 10/22. IMHO best 22 for the price out there.

They are not going anywhere near as accurate as most of the cheap bolt guns...

My Savage 93 is very accurate. That Remington 795 is a lot of 22 for $99 after the rebate I got.

The Savage 93 is very accurate, I love mine.. The Marlin 795 is pretty accurate for the $$...

I think you will be more than happy with the CZ453 in heavy barrel. I have the CZ452 & it will consistantly group 5 shots of CCI MiniMags in 1 inch at 100 yards when strapped into a lead-sled. The 453 is as accurate as the 452, but with a set trigger.
Im currently considering a new .17hmr rifle & for me its a toss-up between the CZ453, Anshutz 1517 & Sako pro-hunter. The CZ, although cheaper than the Anschutz & Sako is still up there with the best of them as a multi-purpose rimfire, in my opinion.

I am confused here, people are recommending everything from 10/22's off the shelf, custom built 10/22s, tactical AR's .22"Rs and all the way up to Olympic medal shooting Anshutz etc.... The OP seems to want an Anshutz (sp?) Olympic gun custom built but wants to buy it in a box off the shelf from Dick's and pay $300.... I can't seem to figure out what we're gunning for here, know what I mean/

I have a TOZ 78-01 I bought new for $129. This TOZ has a dual adjustable trigger, free floated barrel, and target crowned muzzle.
After putting a scope on it I tried a variety of cheap to middle priced 22lr ammo, the most accurate was CCI Blazer 40gr solid. On a windless day at 50yds the gun shoots 3/8-1/2" 5 shot groups.
This is the best deal I had on a rifle since I bought a Russian SKS for $140 :D

I can't say what THE most accurate .22 is, but my most accurate .22 is a Deutsche Sportsmodell by Mauser. It's old, it's beat up, but it hits little tiny targets a long way away with those iron sights.

I'm always looking for a Biathlon Basic.
My CZ 452 Varmint is stoooopid easy to shoot tiny groups.
Don't forget the trigger kit for $14

Just purchased a Savage MkII TR and it will shoot 1/2" groups at 100 yds with Remington Target ammo. The rifle is far better than I am.
