More Walmart policy changes?

I find walsmart such a demoralizing negative experience I never go there. Solves that problem

Same here. There's no good reason to bother with that place.

I can buy ammo just as cheap or cheaper at Sportsman's Warehouse. Instead of hunting down an associate to open a locked cabinet, I can just browse at my leisure, grab what I need, and pay for it on the way out.

Everything else can just come from Target or the grocery store.

My biggest gripe with buying ammo at Walmart is that their outdoor section never has anyone working it so I have to hunt for someone to come unlock the case. Takes like 10-15 minutes usually because the person you find is almost never the person with the key. Then that person has to be paged etc etc.

Buying ammo at Walmart sucks and this makes it worse.

Local Walmart requires paying for ammo and firearms at the sporting goods counter. No escort for ammo purchases but for a firearm purchase an associate will carry a firearm to the exit and hand it to you when you leave.

thats understandable that they don't want you to take it and carry it around with you and pay with your groceries. I don't have any problem with having to pay for it by itself before paying for groceries. The way people are anymore, im sure many people will try and steal boxes of ammo, or while there walking around the store with it, they could open the box and take some ammo out of it and then put the box back on the shelf.

I usually go after work to by ammo which is around midnight when yes there isnt anyone working in Sporting Goods, but i know the routine which isnt to much of a big deal. Electronics is right next to sporting goods so i just first go to Electronics and tell them i need ammo and someone will help me right away

It has always been that way here in pensacola. You either check out in sporting goods or have the ammo taken up to checkout for you. Its not a big deal.

You guys are lucky that your local walmart even sells guns and ammo. Im from jersey and the closest thing to a weapon my local walmart sells is martha stewart kitchen knives

You boys must have no sense of humor what so ever. Walmart has to be one of the best on going "shows" on the planet, and you dont have to spend a cent if you dont want to.

Where else can you see 400 pound "cuties" in short shorts and halter tops, and one armed Amish girls checking out Ipods in the same isle? :D

Bought some ammo at Walmart last weekend, had to pay for it (and everything else since I was there) at the sporting goods counter.

Bought some more ammo today at academy. They gave me the box to pay uP front.
Weird differences

just picked up 4 boxes of 9mm tonight in kennesaw, ga. guy helped me quickly and i paid for it there at the sg register. they even had 1 box of .380....shoulda bought it. don't mind paying for it separately. no skin off my back. just put it in the cart and finish up my shopping.

Bought two boxes at Walmart today in AZ, paid at the gun counter, laid the bag in the cart, continued shopping. At final checkout, I just held up the bag and said "I bought this at the Sporting Goods counter", and that was that.
Except for the guy as I was leaving, "I need to see your receipt", and I kept on going, answering, "No you don't, I just paid for all this."
Amazingly enough, I wasn't tackled by geriatric security.

Don't know the policy

I don't know about the ammo policy at my local WM, but the practice changes periodically. I think it depends on how much shoplifting has been occurring lately or how many big wigs have said anything about it. Usually I have to pay at the sporting goods counter, but sometimes they say if I have more shopping to do just pay for it up front. One time the clerk was busy with another customer (gun sale or license sale or something time consuming) so she handed me the keys to the ammo cabinet and said I could get whatever I needed and pay up front so I wouldn't have to wait. I think mostly it is a potential theft issue to them, since electronics is pretty much handled the same way.

I have only purchased ammo from Wal_Mart once, and that was because my LGS was out of CCI subsonic .22 shorts.

The SG counter was busy so I just put the ammo in my cart and continued shopping. At the front checkout the gal asks "is this for a pistol or a rifle?" I asked her why, I could use it in either...she says, it's a question on my screen. I said take you choice, I'll probably use it for both.

That was the end of it. BTW: I was OC at the time, and they said nothing.

If you really have only bought ammo there once, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and trust that you're not trolling.

They ask because the screen won't let them complete the sale otherwise. As you may or may not be aware, the law allows people over the age of 18 to buy rifle and shotgun ammunition, but you have to be over 21 to buy handgun ammunition. So for any caliber that can be used in both, they have to ask. If there's any question about your age (like maybe you're an exceptionally youthful-appearing octogenarian), they ask for a driver's license to verify age.

I have purchased ammo more than once at a couple of nearby Wal-Marts. If I am waited on by the usual sporting goods clerks, they don't ask me. (Of course, while I am not yet an octogenarian, I am a senior citizen and I'll never have to worry abut being mistaken for someone under 21 years of age.)

I have not purchased ammo from evilmart since I started reloading a couple of years ago. They always rang it up at the spoting goods counter, and checked ID. This was during the post election ammo drought. They would enter the ID# of the person buying. There was a 3 box limit on hand gun, .223 rem, and .308 win. . I started reloading and never bought a thing since. Most times when I go back to pick up fishing tackle the sporting goods counter is like an old west ghost town. You can never find an employee.

On the other hand, Wally World did have a SiG AR clone and the SiG AR 22lr clone, (couldn't make out the model numbers on the tags, sorry, not as up on SiG as I should be), and amazingly enough, a Circuit Judge. Didn't check price tags except the 22lr rifle was under $500.

The Mini-14 looked like it had been there a while...

I went to a Walmart super center in NH last month. I wanted to get some 9mm ammo, along with my friend, who recently won a Sig mosquito in a gun club raffle, who wanted to buy some fresh rounds for his gun. The elderly lady at the sporting goods counter saw us looking at the ammo behind the locked glass case. She asked if we could help us. I told her I needed some 9 ammo. she asked "for self defense or target?" I replied target. She replied, "I have some choices you might like, the cheapest is Tula, but alot of my guys go with CCI blazer, or Remington, You gentlemen intersted in AR rounds? gotta hot deal on'em now." and "the AK guys are snatching these up" she said while pionting to a box of 7.62x39. I assured her all we needed was Remmy 9mm and a box of Federal premium .22.She handed me the ammo and told me I could pay for them there. I did that, and she put my ammo in a bag and stapled the receipt to it. I got some other stuff, and went to check out. I showed the cashier the bag containing ammo, and she didn't seem to care less..To me, that was the most enjoyable ammo buying I've ever had. Think of Margorie the Baker selling ammo, thats the best way I can desribe this lady at the SG counter.

K-mart like wal-mart

Here in Maryland the K-MART a few years ago (5 or 6) started to log the name and address and driver's licence number of all ammo purchases, saying it was required by the state government. At 2 local gun stores the owners both stated it was not required so I stopped shopping at K-MART.
