The ability to actually format, and then implement these surveys still requires the co-operation of the host country. I find it a bit deceiving that we would expect that the "men on the street" questioned hadn't been vetted by the host countries intelligence services.
Another prevailing truth is that the media of these countries are routinely government controlled, and opinions are formed by the citizenry from that control. The United States has been "exploiting" the Arabs for oil? Maybe sixty years ago. The simple fact is that today's oil-producing countires are also home to obscenely rich governments and officials, while the people remain so poor and live in squalor. How does that make the U.S. responsible?
The sheer lunacy of attempting to formulate policy dependent on foreign government manipulated studies is bad enough. Expecting the average citizen in a country which actively slants it's information policies to deter further in-roads of Western thought into that area borders on maniacal.
