Midway USA

The good thing about Midway is the selection of products and that most stuff is in stock.

I add stuff to a list until I have a few items to order, that helps offset the high shipping charges. It's definitely not a place to buy one item at a time on impulse.

Service is great, and stuff arrives very quickly... all good there

I have not send any Midway coupons for several months now.

Anyway, grab up a Cabella's and a Midway catalog and compare prices. Midway is generally significantly less expensive when you have the same item to compare.

I'll say the same thing I did in the last MidWay thread...

It's hard for me to believe that people think MidWay's pricing is "good".

MidWay's prices are high and their shipping prices are also higher than most.

From the post that is referenced above I now concur with peetzakilla. I will only order from MidWay as a very last resort after my last go around with them on price increases. 18% to exact

I curse Midway constantly. However, being a retired CPA and a lifetime tightwad, when I have to order several things I go to all the suppliers, all the way down to the buy button. About eight times out of ten Midway has the lowest total cost. And that is all that matters.
If you have a problem with something you received from them, the service can't be beat.
The shipping actually seems to be getting cheaper. If you click the right box you get an option for shipping. Today I was looking at a 1911 barrel, bushing, link, and link pin. The shipping came up $10. However, I clicked the box and found that it would ship first class mail for $4.10. I may be odd, but a day or two longer on the shipping doesn't really make me any difference.

Midway is my first stop if my local store doesn't have a part I want. Quick service, good prices, and a big ol giant BACKORDER if your part is not available.

Shopping is not a hobby to me. Time spent going around to 6 different sites is time I could have spent reloading, shooting, golfing, drinking or that other hobby I do with the GF. Midway has the best service and shipping I know of and their prices are OK. I may occasionally shop around a little just to be sure I'm not getting taken, but that's about it.

Get an O3 FFL...
If you're a full-time firearms hobbyist, you'll save enough at Midway to make it well worth your while-even if you only buy collectible firearms occasionally.
Their service is exemplary, and I've never had an issue.

I just got a "Shooting" catalog from Cabela's in the mail.

Heard of 'em, but never got a catalog from them before.

If you ask me, I gotta wonder how they're still around...
Their pricing, on everything I looked at- from optics, to reloading supplies, to shooting supplies, you name it- was ridiculously higher than I can get at any one of a half-dozen other online retailers. By ridiculous I mean often in the range of 20% or more.

It was like gettting another of the usual "junk" catalogs that goes straight to the circular file.

Between Midway (even without a C&R), Natchez's, Graf's, Brownells, and Powder Valley(not to mention dozens of others), I don't see how they're still in business.

Does anyone here actually buy from Cabela's? If so, what?

Cabelas is a HUGE store, on the order of Bass Pro Shop. They have about 40 of the stores. About 10% of the floor space is taken up by gun related items, probably about the same with fishing. Probably 50% is clothing. They do seem to have a large selection of guns, but at a very high price. Their reloading inventory is kind of hit or miss. I seldom find what I want if I go for a specific item. Their web site is pretty complete, but again the prices are usually high. They do have things on sale frequently at a decent price. For some reason they only stock the 1# size of powder. I stop occasionally if I am going by, but would never make the 40+ mile round trip to look for something. Same applies to Bass Pro Shop.

Because of what they stock, Midway is generally the first place I look. Many times I buy bullets when they have them on sale, not when I need them, which helps offset their high cost of shipping and handling. Trying to find/buy bullets off their new website sucks bigtime tho...........

Do you use the tab at the upper left corner to narrow down the caliber, then the manufacturer (if needed)?

Until I saw that little box off to the left to narrow the search, I thought the same thing.

I've tried to order from them and every time I get to the shipping price I have to lower my head and back out of the order. I just can't pull the trigger on that much of a price for shipping and handling.

^+1 This happens to me too.

If their shipping were more reasonable I'd be a customer.

I just looked at a few things and it seems like you guys are right and I am wrong. Their shipping has come down quite a bit. Every time in the past I tried to order something it was always $13-14 shipping no matter what I wanted to order. Now, I tried a few different things and for a scope it was still $9.55, but for a box of 500 bullets the shipping was under $5 which was pretty impressive. I then tried a magazine and it was also right around $5. With shipping at these prices I may order more from them.

I wish Natchez would offer shipping like this or like Grafs, as they often have the best prices on stuff.

I am not trying to defend anyone, but after Christmas season and shipping gifts I was shocked at shipping cost. It has skyrocketed over the last couple of years, and I can appreciate why sellers have to pass this on to customers.

It is still often cheaper for me to have purchases shipped to me than drive 50 miles one way to Montgomery, AL and then pay their 10% sales tax. If you think shipping cost is high, then look at local and state sales taxes.

I started ordering from Midway since they were a very small outfit and that was over 30 years ago. I still have brass with Midway headstamps. I can remember when their main business was bulk bullets, brass, and reloading supplies only. At that time, they had a small flier with around 30 pages which contained everything they sold, printed on cheap newspaper. No one could beat their prices back then.

Over the couse of the years, Midway has grown to where they carry virtually everything related to shooting. Their catalog is now glossy tume and weighs around 4 pounds. They have a strong advertising staff and they can even afford to advertise on TV. They are the largest shooting sports retailer.

Their customer service has always been exemplary and they have fast shipping.

However, I concur with most of you, as Midway as grown, so have their prices. Their prices are too high. Grafs, Natchez, and Midsouth are a few that beat out Midway. I still get their fliers in the mail and respect Midway, but I rarely shop their anymore.

I will continue to support Midway ,if for no other reason, because they have probably done more to promote gun ownership and involvement through their sponsorship of "Wed Night at the Range" than any other outdoor supply comapany.

With regard to shipping costs, what do you expect with $3.00 gas, $3.60 diesel, and $6.00 jet fuel?

Of course shipping costs are up, for pretty much everybody.

Shipping costs are up, yes, but when I can order a $15 part from Grafs or $30 box of bullets from Powder Valley and have them shipped for $2.95 or $8.95 and MidWay want $14.95...

Anyway, last time I looked (probably late summer) there were no options on MidWay for $5 shipping like a couple guys are saying recently in this thread. I'll check them out and if that holds up they might get more of my business.

Their prices are still high but IF they have everything in one place AND low shipping, they just might win the bottom line.

No option when I looked a few months ago either, but when I looked today after seeing a few posts on it, sure enough they had some cheaper options. For bigger items like scopes, it still was like $9.55, but for things like bullets, magazines, etc, I had shipping options right under $5. This is not at all how it was last time I'd checked, but I'm glad to see it. Now if only Natchez would do this.

Natchez is a lot cheaper, but Midway may be like Grafs now. If only ordering $30-50 worth of stuff it may be a better option. That's how Grafs has been for me. For small orders it's usually cheaper overall. However if I'm ordering $100 or more, Natchez or Power Valley Inc is almost always cheaper overall, and I'm sure that's still the case.
