Midway USA

I was reading a thread here the other day that made mention of Midway USA going downhill.

I agree that their backorder protocall is a bit senseless (i.e. if you place an order that contains a backorder item you must pay shipping for two separate orders).

Well, I must say that I have always appreciated their fast shipping. I placed an order Wednesday afternoon and it was at my door today. Not too shabby.

Fair prices, fast shipping, and excellent selection. Please work on the whole backorder thing, but aside from that, y'all are doing great.

Thanks Midway!

I think that if you order the item from a place that has it in stock, you will be required to pay shipping. If you do not want to do that, just cancel the order or have them hold the entire order until the backordered itme is available.

Midway going downhill, I don't think so. Midway is a distributor. The manufacturers need to produce a product for them to move. Remember just a couple years ago when you could not get an AR-15 or any uppers for them? It's supply and demand. Demand went wild. Same thing happened with ammo due to the war. Now you can get AR's and most ammo.

That is not Midway's fault. Midway has always done super by me with fast shipping, filling orders promptly and good pricing.

The Doc is out now.

I've used Midway a few times and am very pleased with them but I never ordered anything they did not have in stock. Did you contact them about this?

Why so? They have to ship two separate packages. Why should they pick up the tab for the one that was backordered?

Well Amazon does it that way... Back orders are shipped for free, or from separte distribution centers.... What you see is what you pay. And lots of stuff quality for 'free' shipping. So... why not? :) . Just saying! Hah!

I'll say the same thing I did in the last MidWay thread...

It's hard for me to believe that people think MidWay's pricing is "good".

MidWay's prices are high and their shipping prices are also higher than most.

They have ONE major advantage.... they really do have "almost everything".... which means that sometimes, even though their prices are high and their shipping is high, I can get everything from them and no other single place carries it all. So, I might pay $50 and have to pay $18 for shipping for what I could get for $35 from 3 other places but I'd have to pay 3 shipping charges of $12... so it's "cheaper" from MidWay, even though neither the prices nor the shipping are actually "cheaper".

I have used MidWay a number of times but if I'm buying things that I can get from a single other source, MidWay is almost NEVER cheaper.

Larry just needs to loosen up a bit.their are many who have already moved or have been useing other suppliers for some time now.for me I will buy from Midway but only when I cannot get what I want from another supplier.like one has already said the prices and shipping are just to high.

I've tried to order from them and every time I get to the shipping price I have to lower my head and back out of the order. I just can't pull the trigger on that much of a price for shipping and handling.

I think it would be nice to have the option of Midway "holding" the order until all of the items are in stock. Unfortunately this is not an option.

Some people might be thinking, "Why don't you just wait to place the order until everything is in stock?"

Well, I have tried to do that in the past. Usually just ends up with one of the items that was initially in stock being on backorder, when my original backorder item becomes availiable. Whew! That was a mouthful!!!

I still buy from Midway, but liked them better before they dropped their prices and started charging for shipping.

I just ordered a full reloading setup from Midway. I had compared prices and theirs were pretty good. Used the $10 off coupon so shipping was only $1.39, or however you want to figure it. Stuff arrived in 2 days. I'm pretty happy with it.

Maybe so, but they are still cheaper, even when you factor in shipping, than anybody within reasonable driving distance from my house.

My $0.02 on Midway: I think their pricing is OK, if you keep track of the online coupons, promotions and sales, at least for the stuff I buy from them. Cheaper than dirt might have better prices on their "sale" items sometimes, but I'm doing some long term magazine collecting for several guns when $ is available, and I get pretty good deals on mags at Midway if I keep my eyes open and hit the sales.

Bullets are another story. I usually buy direct from manufacturers: Precision, X-treme, Missouri, Montana Gold, etc...

What Midway does VERY well is fast shipping. Most places could learn a thing or two from them about getting the stuff on the truck asap from them.

As far as shipping costs, I assume they got some consultant telling them people would rather get the stuff faster rather than save half a buck on shipping, and in this (rare) case, the consultant is probably right as far as most folks are concerned. I know I like getting my hands on it the same week that I ordered it.

Definition of a "consultant": Somebody who borrows your watch and then you pay them to tell you what time it is...

There are plenty of online places that are better even if I have to piece it out, I am just careful to not get caught out leaving one little key piece that stops me cold when I'm stocking supplies.:p
I'm stuck with online buying, and I live in a metropolitan area. I don't like the local Gander Mountain and my LGS think they are selling precious metals.

I purchase only items they have on sale or other discounts, don't care for their lowest type shipping UPS which drops it at my local Post office for delivery normally delays arrival 1-2 days when they could originally mailed out priority mail at less cost with faster delivery:

I won't order powder plus other items at same time as they drop ship powder so I end up paying two shipping cost on one order.

Normally I end up with Power Valley for components:

I've emailed Midway on these issues some time ago with little results, they do a good job in many ways with a huge number of items but for me or anyone on fixed income it's much like Cabelas not a one spot shopping store.;)

I found that the backorders can be cancelled easy enough thru your account page or just as quickly over the phone, but I try to place any orders around the in-stock items I want, not the backordered items.

Yep, the prices drive me away too. Natchezss.com almost always has the same item cheaper, and while their shipping is high too, it's usually about the same as Midway. Plus, their shipping is extremely fast as well.

If I'm just buying components, Power Valley INC if order large quantities seems to usually be the cheapest, and Grafs if I'm order super small quantities since they have $5 flat rate shipping. Midway, doesn't seem to fit in for the best prices at anything really.

Midway has always done good by me. Are they The Cheapest? No. They are cheaper than some, and I know I won't get screwed by some fly-by-night operation. Yes, their shipping has been climbing more than I'd like. But then all shipping prices have increased in the last couple years. I simply do my best to order multiple items and spread the cost out as much as possible. That, & flat rate boxes whenever realistic.
