Metal frame vs Polymer Frame

Hi the Man up was just a joke.

You could have told me that before I ran out, got my blood checked, stocked up on a year's worth of hormone replacement therapy and bought a Reynold's chest-wig!

I still own both polymer and steel frame handguns for when I flip-flop.

Today... I'm carrying a Glock 30... Next month I may be back to my Sig P220?

I learned from past experience that one will want the format he doesn't have after he sells it. :)
There is a lot of truth to this, but it's a lot easier to part with plastic than a nice metal weapon. Atleast for me anyhow. I do like both, but much prefer metal frames.

I fully agree with you on the above statement. There's nothing like a nice, well tooled, metal handgun in ones hands. (That's why I've learned to put my "metal handguns" in the back of the safe for when I fall off of the polymer horse.) :)

But, on the other hand I'm happy to say that I carry a Glock 30 that fits my hands nicely, carries reasonable quantity of a respectable size cartridge... and shoots very nicely for me.

I guess I'm fortunate... I have the "best" of both worlds. :D

You'll see folks comparing the SDP to the new CZ P-07, and they do look alike, but internally, they have nothing in common -- as you can see by downloading the user manuals from the Sphinx and CZ sites. I haven't had a chance to shoot a P-07, yet, but it's apparently a pretty good design, and many CZ enthusiasts are raving about it, and its modest costs. (The P-07 is really a new design, using the Omega trigger system; the SDP is very similar to the traditional CZ internally.)
Is the SDP a lot better than the P-07? Only the buyer can decide that.

Seems like a very balanced review. I think I agree with most everything he said, except his attention to "customizability." There is limited "customizability" of the Sphinx, due to an absence of after-market support. That can (and probably willl) change, with time. After-market suppliers would be dumb to make parts for guns that aren't in the market place, yet. The new line of Sphinx guns is very new to the market. When CZs first hit the market here in the U.S. in the late '90s, it was YEARS before you could find custom parts. It's just been in the past couple of years that things have started to take off.

On the other hand, having shot a Sphinx SDP for a while now, I can't think of much I'd want to customize or change. I did go to a lighter hammer spring, as noted in my ealier response -- but that was stock CZ "compact" spirng. I would prefer a safety to the decocker, but that's coming in the near future -- but it won't be a user-changeable option in the same gun, ala P-07.

Some folks won't like the SDP's polymer grip, but the SDP is also available in all-steel and steel/alloy. (And if someone didn't tell you the grip was polymer, you might not even notice. It's nicely done.) The Sphinx full-size guns that are coming include IPSC-ready versions, if you have the money. Those guns will probably compete quite well against the CZ Tactical Sport. I view the reviewer's comparison if a P-07 ro an SDP a bit like comparing a SIG P-2022 to a P-228 or P-229. Those guns will perform very similarly, but some folks will just want to stick with the 228/229 and all metal, while not abhor the polymer and also be more cost conscious.

Price is an issue for many of us. I expect the Sphinx SDP price to come down a bit over the coming year. That said, I like nicer guns, and will spend a bit more to get that "niceness." If I had very limited income and could afford only one gun, it would probably be the P-07. (I haven't shot a P-07 yet, but I've read enough to know that I want to. I'll probably wait and get a used P-07, one of these days. I missed a chance to pick one up cheaply on a local forum, recently.)
