Metal frame vs Polymer Frame

For ease of carry and concealment(and weight) I carry polymer. I can't find one I am really crazy about shooting a lot, but I do want to have something that's comfortable to carry all day. All my others are steel and alloy. They're just, for me at least , much more accurate , easier to shoot well and I can shoot them for extended periods without discomfort. I realize Glocks are fine weapons, but well....THEIR BUTT UGLY!!

I like metal framed guns. I like polymer framed guns. I like DA/SA guns. I like striker fired guns. I like DI AR's, piston AR's, and pump action shotguns. I like guns.

I'm a little jealous of the 226 stainless elite. I've been really eyeballing one for weeks now... really considering making the jump and throwing it on layaway.

I spend the most time shooting polymer guns, but my favorite gun overall is the P226 in 9mm.

My favorite handguns are polysteelaluminum frame, Hammerstriker fired singledouble actions. I adapt!

I've gotten rid of all my Glocks and now prefer DA/SA metal frame handguns.
Got rid of one type for another???:eek::eek:

Uncle, if you're going to get an Elite, you really ought to just spend a little more and get yourself one of the X-Five variants (while they're still made at the Mastershop in Eckernförde). It's not that much more expensive, and there's really no comparison in quality. The second-generation guns are less expensive than the first.

I have both and like each for their own reasons. I'm looking hard at the Sphinx SDP that is half and half.

Though I carry a G19 I am completely bored with all the poly guns. Walk right past them in the LGS to view the revolvers and any steel guns. My P89 is a joy to shoot (now that I worked the trigger) and is a fantastic weapon to teach with. Coveting several guns and they are all steel: Beretta 92, 1911's, CZ 75, Hi Powers etc.

So far I've been able to avoid buying anything plastic or striker fired. If there's a gun that suits my needs and it's an all metal hammer fired gun I'll gravitate towards that. Alloy framed guns are just as light as polymer but they can usually be dressed up with some nice wood grips. Why can't they make plastic guns the same way? There must be some polymers that are strong enough to be made into traditional style frames. I might eventually go with a Kimber Solo for a pocket gun, but other than a small concealed carry piece, I can't really see myself with anything striker fired. SA/DA preferred but a single action still trumps a striker pistol for me.

My 3 favorites...

I slowly phased them put over the years. When I started looking to buy again I decided I liked the all metal framed DA/SA better. Mainly due to being more accurate for me, triggers feel better, look a lot better, and just overall feel to be of higher quality. I still like Glocks, and other polymer handguns, but I have quiet a few wants on the list before I consider another.

I was at a gun show last night....99% of pistols there were polymer. Harder to find all metal oldies. The oldies seem to go high too.

I sold my one Glock to get my one CZ 75, SP-01.

I prefer the CZ gun to the Glock I had, but that is not to say I dislike Glock: I don't. I sold it because of the grip angle thing.

I'd have no problem getting another Glock as I've since discovered that the Gen4 backstraps do address the angle for me.

Having said that, I don't see myself selling the CZ for some time, if at all.

The earlier post, however, has rekindled my old interest in the Steyr. It had been one of my short-list for my first ever gun purchase and was only beaten by a G19 because one turned up for too good a price.

I prefer metal, but for no practical reason. I just like older guns and they were metal.

I've owned a Glock, XD, Sigma, Kel-Tec, even a Hi-Point. Nothing wrong with them really, they're very practical.

I just like metal.

Metal Frame vs Polymer Frame

Grunt96,I can't believe what I just read! I am one of the few that does not like Polymer Frame guns or striker fired ones. All of my guns are metal, steel or alloy. I am form the steel is real gang. I have only DA/SA metal guns & some wheel guns. I only had one Polymer frame gun & it was a Glock G21 3th gen. I did not have it long. To me a gun does not feel real to me if its not metal. And I am getting feed up with hearing guy's cry about all metal gun's weighing to much to carry all day long. Man up. I am glad to see someone that likes (real guns) metal guns. I love the DA/SA trigger pull also like them with a decocker the best. If you like the 9mm take a good look at the CZ's. In full size the CZ,75BD is really nice. It has the decocker. You said you where thinking of the Cheetah? I have one it's the Cheetah 85F. That's the single stack model. All I can say on that is its a great gun small great for cc & very well made. If there is anything you would like to know or ask me on CZ handguns you can PM me. I am a big fan of CZ's & I have 6 different model's of them. STEEL IS REAL!:)

I don't like striker guns much at all. I prefer solid steel guns that are DA/SA over alum framed, and alum greatly over polymer. Mostly full size over compacts. I won't buy a 1911 of any kind, I don't like the grip shape at all, and there are too many issues with the pretty ones.

I just don't like the feel of polymer guns, and have sold my only one, an HK USP. If I need lighter weight for carry, I go aluminum frame instead. It may be a tad heavier, but feels better to me.
