Over 95% of FTE's with (New Model 60) Marlins is a problem with the ejector wire being positioned wrong.
This is how it looks when properly positioned.
A lot of folks unknowingly/inadvertantly bend the wire the wrong way when cleaning...so it's pretty common for problems to be wire related.
In fact, it's one of the ways I get Marlins so cheap...idiots sell them to pawn shops, the pawn shop guys test 'em and think they're malfunctioning, and they sell 'em for $50-60...and all I have to do is pull the bolt back & take a look to tell if the wire's set wrong

Also, avoid Remington Golden Bullet & Thunderbolt ammo.
1. It's the dirtyest-firing ammo I know of.
2. Constant problems with short powder loads & no powder loads.
3. Quite often they forget to put primer in the rim.
4. Inconsistant bullet size. (Mic a 550 box, it's fun...not)
5. Inconsistant bullet seating (sometimes you can pull them out by hand)
That's all the problems I've run across so far.
Remington Golden Bullet AKA "Golden Bullsquish"
Remington Thunderbolts AKA "Thunderduds"
Ammo doesn't earn nasty nicknames across the USA unless it really sucks.

Now for Old Model 60's with the two-piece feed throat...there's a kit that Marlin sells which puts a new 1-piece feed throat and a few more parts which totally solves those feed issues. Call Marlin for the kit. It'll cost ya a few bucks, as your old Marlins are out of warranty, but it solves the problem.
The old models have a solid ejector, not a wire, which can occasionally get bent to one side or the other...it should be just INSIDE the feed throat, just like the wire.

Great thing about the Marlins...you don't have to dismantle to clean.
You take out the two screws holding the action to the stock...
Then you remove the two clips holding the action guts to the action housing & separate them.
You can clean everything easily without having to break it down any further than that.
Hope this helps some folks!
