Marlin Model 60

I checked for lead buildup i dont see any,
P.S. when i work the bolt back and fourth manually it cycles fine, its just when i fire when it jams.

its pretty clean as is, but i will try it. The bullets are often tweeked, or angled by the time its going into the barrel. Could whatever is causeing that, be to blame?

If a thorough cleaning still doesn't correct the problem, then try a different ammo. Sometimes a gun just doesn't like a certain type of ammo.

Sometimes the ejector lifter spring gets a little bent out of alignment. Check out this page and also this one.

I had the same problem with mine...when nothing I tried worked, I sent it back to Marlin and they replaced the trigger assembly. No charge. They must have also felt that my stock wasn't up to par because they restocked the rifle and sent me back the old one under seperate cover. Best service I've ever received!

I've put over 5000 rounds through mine (and I got it used), ALL different kinds of ammo, and the only problems I've had are about 5 FTE's. I've never totally dissasembled it for cleaning. every 1000 rounds or so I just remove the action from the stock, and "hose" it with carburator/brake cleaner. Then I lube it up really good. Also, clean out the magazine tube and follower, as they can be gummed up over time.

Sounds like the feed lips are tweaked. Either have a smith realign them or send the rifle to the factory. It's a quick fix, but not necessarily easy to get the feed lips right.

Try some different ammo. I had the same problem with mine and turns out it just did NOT like the cheap federal stuff, but anything Remington or CCI it loved.

I had that problem on my 60 a few years ago when I was first learning. The guy at the gun store was right, should've got the 10/22.

same problem here, jamming every few rounds, I changed springs, cleaned it until you could eat off it, and tried every brand ammo you could think of, yet it still jammed. I went out and got a Ruger 10/22, never looked back...

You could go buy a Ruger and waste money.
Or just send it to Marlin and have them fix it.

I bought a used marlin 60ss and it was jamming almost every other time. When I opened it up the ejector spring was bent so I bent it back. Went and fired a few hundred rounds and it started again. Keep in mind the thing was clean as a whistle, but I have no idea what the last owner may have done to it.

I went to Marlin, registered the warranty then sent it to them. They sent it back a few weeks later, no charge. They fixed the issue, pretty much replaced all the internals. And I don't think they even aknowledged the warranty. They just fixed it and sent i back because I asked them to.

Great service from MARLIN. So much so that I'm registering just so I can tell others.

On a related note. Don't buy anything from budsgunshop.com. Bastards sold me a misfiring gun and don't accept returns. They should at least fire their rifles before they sell them.

Bud’s is by no means perfect, but surely you don’t expect them to test fire every firearm that they sell; that’s the responsibility of the manufacturer, not the retailer.

I had a Model 60 that jammed every 10th shot....then I took it apart and found that my dad hadn't cleaned it in 30 years:p

Lil bit of TLC and she's running flawless. At this rate, my daughter might have to give it another cleaning in 20 or so years.

I love the Marlin design. I bought a 795 as a truck/camping gun...man, what a lil tack driver with open sites. Sweetest shooting rifle I own, and gives me about 3 hours of fun for about $15 worth of ammo:p

use CCI MINI MAGS - mine was jaming with the federal bulk pack. Switched to MINI mags and no more problems.
Mine loves mini-mags too. Actually, it has a passionate affair with them. I occasionally get FTF's with other (cheapo) brands, but never with mini-mags. They're pretty clean too - I get very little fouling in the action and almost none in the bore.
