I'm looking for some advice on Marlin 1894 sights. I know about the skinner peep, as well as the lyman, Redfield and Williams peeps. I have an 1894CL from the early 90s factory drilled and tapped for a receier sight. I am wondering how the williams FP and Redfield Steel Micro Sights look on an 1894CL with factory holes. Is anyone using such a set up that can post pictures? Also, does the factory sight on the CL work with side mounted peeps or do I need a higher one and if so, what size do you recommend?

Hodaka, thanks for that picture. That's pretty much the arrangement I am most interested in right now with the williams like you have or a classic redfield from fleabay. I don't know if all of these come with a standard spacing for the screws as long as they are flat sided. Also, how does the gun shoot with the standard front sight you have? My CL has a barrel mounted bead sight that looks pretty tall. Was your gun factory drilled and tapped? It looks like a very recent gun with the cut checkered stocks. Could you show me a picture of the front sight?
You will (should) get two additional front sights with the Williams FP sight kit. (Mine required/I used one
of the taller sights IIRC.)

Yes, thanks for the correction. I've had it for a long time. I'll post the front sight picture when I have a minute but I believe it is the stock one. The rifle came drilled and tapped and the sight was easy to mount. It makes a big difference in accuracy. I can keep them on a 2 x 2 Post-it note at 100 with my Nosler 158 reloads. The only other modificaiton is the removal of the button safety.

I would recommend that if you are going to use it for hunting that you go with a rear mounted sight like the Williams. It will give you a longer sight radius and a wider field of view through the peep. Also unscrew the inner peep for hunting as you will be able to pick up the target sooner and see it under low light. Given the normal accuracy level of that rifle, I would just throw the inner sight over my left shoulder as I doubt you will ever notice a loss of accuracy.

Dunno if scope/peep flexibility matters to you, but Williams now offers a scope base for Marlins with integral peep that is interesting.

rc, Williams makes two versions of the FP sight suitable for the Marlin 1894 - hodaka's picture shows one version that mounts to the side of the receiver, mehavey's picture shows the other version that mounts to the two rear scope mount screws on the top of the receiver. I have the second version that mounts on top, it works best with a hammer extension, and I had to install a taller front sight, in part because I also used the Merit Hunting Disc adjustable iris:

I've got a Williams on my .357, and it will probably stay there, but........twice the rifle has gotten dinged hard enough to knock the windage slide off (target). If I had it to do again, I would put a set of XS or Skinners maybe on the little carbine.
Not abused, just carried and shot a bunch, in and out of the truck, general woods rambling.

have "Williams" peep on my 375 Marlin (336) that mounts on top of the reciever in the scope mount holes, but it is not the FP design.
The adjustments are not as positive as the FP, but it was 1/2 the price of the side mounted one, and once set it's fine. I did have to change the front site to a taller version.

Tahoe do you know the number of your front sight? My 357 has a ramp like that but my 32-20 does not. I have seen those 336 peeps hang off the back fof the 1894 unless you modify them. I've seen guys drill extra holes on top of the rifles, which I don't like or some drill an extra hole in the sight which sounds like a better idea for an 1894 not to go poking extra holes in the gun..
I got an older Williams FP with side mount today for my CL. It bolted right on once the filler screws were removed. The rear sight came off easy towards the right side. The front sight height on the CL seems compatible with the side mounted peep at it's lowest elevation, but there was a lot of glare off the bead because the sun was off to my front and I was having a hard time making precise shots at 50 yards due to a fuzzy sight picture. Is there a triangular or narrow partridge front sight that might be a better match to the peep? All recomendations welcome. Thanks again for all the great pictures.
