Marlin 1894 or rossi 92

In .44 mag, the rifle will have some kick. More than you might expect.

I have had a Marlin, and currently have one in .357Mag.

Don't know the Rossi, sorry.

Get a Marlin. Get one used, an older gun. That way you get a break on the price, avoid the current quality control issues, and with a little bit of looking, can find a gun in good shape.

Rossi 92...got one in 45 Colt. LOVE it! Had a Winchester 94AE...hated it- I don't like the look of the Marlins, personally.

Marlin, Marlin, and Marlin. My recoil experience with the 1894 in 44 has been different than 44AMP. The stock is thin and I don't have a pad installed, so I don't shoot it from the bench. I put Skinner Sights on it and can keep every shot on a coffee can at 110 yards, using Green Box 240gr Remington.

Marlin ... I had both. Sold the Rossi. I had to work the action on the Marlin to get the feed correct. Rossi never accurate and poor support.

rossi is notorious for poor quality control and shoddy workmanship. you may be more familiar with their sister company taurus... both of these companies know how to make guns that look legitimate and solid but more shooters than not are dissappointed... marlin on the other hand is a very reputable company when it comes to lever action guns. I would recommend the 1894 all day long and intend to get one some day in 357.

come on guys help me out

Rossi. I purchased a Marlin 795 and its junk. Marlin's QC sucks and so does their customer service.
I have not been able to find any negitives about the Rossi rifles

You have that backwards. Taurus is notorious for poor quality control and shoddy workmanship. Rossi used to make affordable firearms that weren't finished as well as their American competition, but functioned well (due to cheap, Brazilian labor).

Once Rossi was eaten up by Taurus, Taurus's greed and reputation were forced down the throat of Rossi, and both companies now produce crap.

I got an older marlin 1894c & I love it, at the moment I'm contemplating a 45c R92.

I would be very wary of buying a Marlin 1894 from "the Freedom Arms Group." I bought a 1894 SS in .44 Mag 2 years ago and it went back to Marlin twice and never was the same (excessive burrs on bolt face and "Marlin Jam." Tried again and got a 1894 blued in 357. There was an area about 1 in long and 1/2 wide on the barrel that was not blued properly. I had to argue with Marlin to get them to pay return shipping. In the end, I returned it to the gun store. BTW, my two new Remingtons "Freedom Arms Group" are POS as well... one got returned and one is awaiting a new barrel.

So I guess it comes down to:

Spend a lot on a POC rifle from a company with bad CS.

Spend less on a POC rifle from a company with bad CS.

GLAD WE COULD HELP!:D

I have a Rossi 45 LC, no problems.

so you are comparing an autoloading 22lr rifle to a lever action 44/357?
I bought a ruger 10/22 and didn't like it so I refuse to buy a Sp101
about the same concept. the 795 is designed to be a cheap plinker gun and many have issues and marlin replaces them free of charge if you do get a lemon...

I've got an Amadeo Rossi M92 in .357 Mag that was built AFTER the Rossi factories major retooling in the early 2000's and BEFORE Braztec chimed in with that ridiculous & ugly "lawyers" safety switch they're sticking on top of the receivers of the new R92s.

These post retooling and pre-safety era guns were the best Rossi 92s and they are getting very hard to come by.

The new Marlin levers that have been manufactured after Remington got their hands on the company are not up to snuff with the quality and reliability we grew up expecting from Marlin. Too bad. The only Marlins I'll buy now will be seconds.

2008 will be to Marlin what 1964 was to Winchester.

My Amadeo Rossi M92 is smooth cycling and accurate.

Im going out tomorrow to look for an 1894 44mag. I considered the competition, but when I reminded myself that this gun will be passed down to my son Patton, who will be born in March... The Marlin stood out as a tried and true heirloom quality gun.

First, let me qualify by saying I have owned both of these, in several variations.

Current Marlin vs. Current Rossi = Rossi. (both have occasional QC issues, the rossi is less expensive. Why pay marlin's premium and still get iffy QC?

Pre-2000 Marlin vs. Pre-'safety' Rossi =Both solid guns, Marlin will have better resale value, but cost significantly more. Older Rossi's are solid, cost less, worth less. Both work equally well. Depends on your priorities.

Pre 'safety' Rossi vs. Current Marlin = Rossi. Easily. Older rossi's can be had for less and are more reliable than current marlins.

I've got 2 Marlins, both in .44mag. They are okay but the earlier posters are correct about Marlin quality problems. My Browning BLR is what a lever gun should really be, but its a .308 and Browning only makes BLRs in rifle calibers (no .44s or .357s). I'd really like a Henry Big Boy and its on my list for when I win the lottery.

Rex Lee, well put. No problems with a dozen Pre-safety Rossis (all 80s-90s Interarms and Pre '06 EMFs) over the years. Other than the presence of the stupid safety, I also haven't heard of many issues with the Legacy (LSI) Puma Rossis (late 1990s-appx 2009).
Can't speak to the Braztech/Taurus era guns.

I have the Cimarron 1892 "ElDorado" .357mag.
It's made by Chiappa (Italy) ... the craftsmanship is top notch and the action is like butta.

I was told this is an exact repro of the Winchester 1892.
