Makarov...best handgun in the world for $150.00?

Just to be different.

I don't like em. Yes they are cheap. Yes they are reliable. Yes they are comfy.
BUT
That round they shoot is goofy and so is the looks of the gun.
But then I think those new purple anodized target .22's are good looking.
Get one.
Then save up and get a Hi Power and drool drool drool.

You must tell me where I can get extra Makarov 9X18 magazines for less that $5.

Thanks,

Joel

You can get East German mags for $4.50 at makarov.com, if you buy at least 3 (otherwise they're $5.50).

YUP!!!! I have six. I carry an E. Deutsch. I paid $175 for my last one. Sounds loke a good deal. Now go do the right thing, and buy that Makarov!!!! :D

I think you are doing an injustice to the Makarov by making statements like "for the money" and "in it's class" . The Makarov is a solid, well made, dependable, and accurate handgun period. What it cost doesn't even enter in to it.

I have encountered one (1) allegedly knowledgeable gun-person who said that the makarov was a junk gun.

This is the same allegedly knowledgeable gun-person who later told me that the .50 BMG rifle was illegal to produce in the United States, which is why Stewart was arrested by the BATF.

Needless to say, I question his status as allegedly knowledgeable. :D

And yes, he runs a gun-store counter. No, I don't shop there anymore.

The mak is a great little gun. Not long on looks, but it gets the job done.

To each his own but, I like the looks of the MAK. It's a great little pistol. I bought an unissued Bulgarian about a week ago for $140. I took it to the range yesterday and put 240 rounds of Barnaul HPs, Fiocchi FMJ and Blazer with the Gold Dot HP through it without a hitch. Mainly I was just breaking it in but I also practiced shooting it in DA mode quite a bit and got better at it towards the end of the session. I took it home and cleaned and oiled it and noticed that the DA pull was considerably smoother after the little bit of practice I did with it. It had been pretty rough. Also, the safety/decocker lever has gotten easier to use, it had been a bitch to operate. I bought the pistol to use as a "garage gun" and I don't have any doubts that it will perform well for me if I ever have to use it for defense. I will probably carry it in my car some, too.

Agreed. I really like my bulgie, as a matter fact I just got done cleaning it. I bought one based on the many opinions here and on other boards. I have yet to be let down by the fine folks on the gun boards I am a member of.

Good point, the " For the money" statement may not apply here, but being light on gun budget money myself, I understand the statement!!

Just bought mine today, Russian Makarov- 9x18 with adjustable sights, with no spare magazine or holster, but it has a single action trigger like no other I've seen on a double action pistol.
Unfired, it was a display model, beautiful blueing. Does'nt seem to have been 'handled' much.

Cost me a $160, but I think it was worth it.

Magazines are cheap at $5.00 (used).

I love it!

Garage Gun

glockorama,
You don't have a garage gun? I'm out in the garage quite a bit in the summer and I wanted something to keep there that would be reliable but not cost a lot of money. The irony of it is, the MAK looks so good cleaned up and polished that I kind of hate to keep it in the garage. I do have it in a protected spot. :)

Makarov and FEG PJK-9HP

I have both pistols, to me, worth more than they cost. I have an East German Makarov, and the kick is about the same as a 9mm Parabellum to me. I also have a FEG PJK-9HP(copy of a FN/Browning Hi Power) It is accurate, fires the more conventional 9mm Parabellum and any FN/Browning part will work in it (even a FN\Browning silde if the FN\Browning slide stop is used) Only thing about the FEG is that the mag safety has to be removed, simple process. Other than that, for $150.00 either pistol will serve you well. 9x18mm can be found at most gun shows or some stores if one knows where to look (its even carried in both of the Wal-Marts where I live, Northern Virginia)

Ironbar - thanks for the compliment!

The holster is as you suspected - a FOBUS.

I wish they would produce an IWB - seems a natural as the material is thin, & the gun snaps into the holster.

Kevinch...

I missed one of those "goodies" a while back - $110 used, but not abused. Too focused on a 1911 - dumb, huh? Finally got my 1911 so putting shekels away for a Mak.

I'm with you on the IWB - seems like it's appropriate. But there are some others out there making some - I'll find them when the time comes.

Shoot well!

I bought one a few weeks ago, and the thing broke on my first trip to the range. The double-action trigger ceased to operate. It would still fire in single-action mode, so I used up the ammo, went home and cleaned it, and then returned it to the dealer from whom I purchased it. Since it was an "unissued" Bulgarian model, there was no other recourse except sending it off for expensive repairs at a shop such as Actions by T. I chose to rid myself of it instead. I got a store credit, which I applied to another purchase. So it goes. My advice to anyone shopping for a firearm is to buy one that has reliable warranty service here in the U.S. Eschew orphaned foreign stuff.

KEVINCH

I LIKE THE SIGHTS ON YOUR MAK. IF YOU DON'T MIND ME ASKING
HOW MUCH DID IT COST FOR MMC TO DO THE SIGHTS. I LOVE MY
MAK AND FOR THE MONEY IT CAN'T BE BEAT.
