looking for accuracy

im looking to buy an accurate handgun i've owned a desert eagle 44 a glock 32 with the 23 and 19 slides the DE was unreliable and the glock was inaccurate my buddy suggest buying a browning hi power what other handguns are known for their accuracy???

First, define accuracy, and decide what the gun will be used for. If you want a target pistol, you are on the wrong track with a DE or Glock, and probably won't be much happier with the BHP. If you want a carry gun for personal defense, consider the likely use and ranges at which it might be used. Self defence situations rarely involve shooting at over ten feet.

Buy a gun that feels good in your hand and points naturally for you, and then buy a LOT of ammo and practice with it. Sooner or later, like an epiphany, accuracy will arrive. :)

P90

Ruger P90.

I knew when I purchased my P90 that it had a reputation for accuracy, but I usually am looking for combat type accuracy and did not give it a lot of thought. Well the P90 has kinda spoiled me. It has this habit of hitting exactly where you aim. I think this is also true for any of the Ruger P series.

From what I read most others have the same experience with the P90 for accuracy. Also great reliability.

Here is a recent thread about the P90. Not too long. Several post's talk about accuracy.

by accuracy i mean some guns are all over the place like the glock i can group the DE fairly well but i'm looking for an accurate reliable home defense gun the DE would be perfect if it wasn't notorious for it's unreliability .

P90 again

I am going to say P90 again. I own several handguns, but when you make accuracy top priority along with reliability then the P90 is a great fit. Even better for home because it is a little bulky for carry. But hogue grips help a lot.

I think you'll find most handguns are capable of good, if not very good accuracy. The shooter is almost always the weakest link and cause of the lack of accuracy, and even to some extent, the function problems.

I wasnt being a smart ass in my last post. You need to find a quality gun that you are comfortable with, and spend a lot of time with it. Even the Glock will become a close friend with some constant and intimate time together. Just because you didnt do well with it initially, doesnt mean you wont with some practice.

Bottom line, you can buy all the guns you want, but cant buy accuracy if you cant shoot. The only way to learn to shoot, is to shoot, and shoot a lot. It will come eventually, maybe even sooner than later if you dont try to hard.

Before purchasing any more handguns, consider investing in some more punctuation marks and capital letters. :)

Ha ha yeah, sorry about that. Im writing through my cell phone. I have spent alot of time with these guns of mine. Im dead on with the DE, and my buddy's M&P 9mm. I'm just asking which guns are inherently more accurate?

but cant buy accuracy if you cant shoot.

Well, I have been shooting since 1948. I can tell you that even if you are a good shot that some guns are more accurate than others. Yes, learn how to shoot, but the question was what are some accurate pistols.

sounds good has it ever jammed on you
Yes, the original 8 round mags gave me FTF, but then again any 8 rounder mag in a GI 7 round mag always give me problems. I changed to 7 round kit using Wilson combat parts. No problems since.

OK, I'm going to be blunt here; some guys have beat around the bush to save your feelings in this thread.

It's not the gun, it is you. GLOCKs are not inaccurate guns. If you have a problem with the grip angle that's one thing, but again, that's you.

Sorry to be so starkly frank.

ETA: Watch this guy's GLOCK videos if you think they're inherently innacurate. You have to face reality, my friend. Here's the G19 that you think is so inaccurate:

Have to agree with that. I guess I missed the second statement about Glocks. If you cannot shoot a Glock with reasonable accuracy then you need to work on your shooting techniques.

I'm pretty much an "auto-loader" pistol guy, owning autos over revolvers
about 3 to 1. And I'm a "fair" shot with most any handgun, although I
am better with a rifle. But the most inherently accurate handgun I have
ever shot, other than a Colt Woodsman Match Target, which is .22 so I
don't count it, is a Smith and Wesson 686 .357 magnum.
I love my 1911s (I have 3 of them) and I know that many auto pistols are
VERY accurate but my 686 is a tack driver like no other handgun I have
ever fired.
No, I have never shot a Colt Gold Cup, or any other "Target" centerfire
handgun. My 686 is all factory original and straight out of the box it
was a dead-on straight-shooter. Of course the 8 3/8" barrel helps.:D

Just my 2 cents on accurate handguns.;)

OGHITMAN187, how frequently do you go to the range and practice? I go to the range, if money allows, about every other weekend.

How many rounds do you practice with each trip? I keep my limit about 100 - 150 depending on what my training regimen is. Too many rounds in one trip does more harm than good.

What's your shooting stance like? Your stance will improve your accuracy.

Have you had professional training? Taking a basic pistol course can't hurt.

The weapons you have listed are very reliable and accurate. Instead of looking for a new pistol, train harder with the ones you already have. 600 bucks on a new gun, is 600 bucks you could have spent on ammo, targets, and range trips. Practice makes permanent not perfect. If you practice wrong, you're going to get wrong.

I know your question was about looking for a more accurate weapon to purchase, however I have to say that the ones you listed are pretty accurate weapons. Also, each weapon is different to different people. I would recommend checking out a Jericho 941, I've been shooting for a while and I feel as if I am more accurate with a Jericho than a Glock. At the same time, I've heard people say the Jericho is a terrible weapon and infinitely inferior to the Glock. Different strokes I guess.

For some reason I was thinking only in terms of semiautos when I mentioned the Kimber 1911s. Walter makes a good point. A good revolver with a 4 to 6 inch barrel can be quite accurate as well as easy to shoot well.
