Looking for a new Hunting Rifle

What barrel profile are you looking for?

Ton's of offerings for $900.00 if that is just the rifle price. Are you looking at $900 covering the entire budget for rifle/scope/mounts/rings?

I bought the Remington 700 Long Range in 7mmMag from Buds for $642.00 shipped to my local FFL holder. It comes with the B&C M40 full bedding block stock and a 26" varmint contour barrel. That means no stock replacement from the start.

One of Savage's offering would be my second choice to stay on budget. If I were going to upgrade my budget I'd start looking at the Win 70 or a Sako.

As a rule I budget more for the optic than the rifle itself. The bullet won't go where you want it if the scope isn't up to the task.

Savage Weather Warrior 16/116 FCSS

Good choice.

Stainless/synthetic so it's going to resist moisture, temp. changes, etc. It's a Savage so it's going to drive tacks. And those are good looking rifles IMO(I know not everyone agrees). And it's priced right.

Whats not to love?

Just because the 710 was a pile of junk doesn't mean that Remington's quality has gone down hill. You get what you pay for..... And you opted for their bottom of the line model. It's like comparing a Chevy Spark to a Corvette.... Both are made by the same company, but one is better than the other. One starts at $12,000 msrp, and the other can run you in excess of $100,000. My vote goes to the Remington 700. There is a reason that the 700 has been made for over 50 years... It works.

There is only one company that's getting any of my gun funds....Winchester.

The FN made rifles are the best deal out there...they're not cheap...by they're not cheap made either.

That's Remingtons number one problem...too many "grades"...the high end rifles are usually ok but the low end rifles ruined their once great reputation.

I used to be a hardcore Remington nut....until I got tired of the rough barrels, bolts, etc....I had over 50 Remington 700 rifles...some newer, some older...then I bought one Winchester, the low end model (Ultimate Shadow)....a year later, I only had 1 Remington, and it technically belongs to my wife...I sold all the others...they just didn't trip my trigger anymore.

Remington 700 or Ruger M77 . Savage makes a good rifle also . Never by the cheaper "stater guns" no matter who makes them or if you do don't complain about the quality .

Col., my daughter has one in .270 winchester. She loves that rifle and shoots it very well, it has. VX II, 3-9, x 40 on Leupold stainless rings and bases,.
Youve made a wonderful choice. Welcome to Savage.

GA Precision Extreme Hunter!

That's a nice rifle, but at $4,500, it's about $4,000 more than I'm willing to spend on a *hunting* rifle that: (a) is too heavy, (b) has a detachable mag; pure silliness; and (c) has a loudener on it.

(b) in particular is utterly disqualifying and nonsensical for a hunter.

But nice chambering and build quality - really a nearly-perfect practical shoot comp. rifle, but bigtime fail as a hunter, for my money. That thing is worth the money for stationary type shoots- bench, practical shoots, etc - really nice.

Been the T/C route too - went back to turnbolts. My issue with them is lack of positive extraction. Ejector can slip under case rim and you're stuck in field with stuck case in gun. If you have no rod, your day or trip is over, at least until you find a rod somewhere.

Finally Unlicensed Drivil theres something we can agree on, while very nice those GA Precision rifles are pretty pricy. And the OP staed he only wanted to spend 900.00 and that would by a catolog from those local dudes...
