Live Explosive Cannonball? (photo)

A bit absurd there, Gerhard.

You're trying to compare apples to orangutangs and it's failing badly.

B. Lahey lives in a private residence, not a business, and I sincerely doubt that he keeps his powder and primers stuffed into a very thick-sided iron ball.

As has been shown in the links in several messages, a number of people have been killed by these things.

Only a raging imbecile or someone totally unfamiliar with these things would blythly assume that it's safe because it's old.

Try to keep it on a reasonable keel, eh?

There are probably excessive amounts and they are definitely not stored ideally. I think everyone should make it their business and call the authorities and report you, too...

This is getting rather silly. There is a big difference in keeping reloading supplies (which is legal) and keeping "destructive devices" which is illegal.

If you store your reloading supplies, let say a can of black powder in the can it came in its perfectly legal. But if you store the same black powder in a pipe with end caps, then its a whole different ball game.

Lets assume this cannon ball sets on the shelf and doesn't go off, (not an assumption I would make). This is a business. How often do fire marshals check businesses?

Guess what happens if he sees the device?

Black powder in a device is extremely dangerous. When I attended the HD School in Huntsville (only civilian bomb disposal school in the US) they stressed NEVER HAND ENTER A PIPE BOMB (which in a way is what that is). Throughout my career in bomb disposal that was stressed.

I know of one case where a bomb tech tried, that film of him being killed is still being shown in the school today.

There is only one legal and safe way to dispose of such device. That is to call the police who will notify the Bomb Squad that handles your area.

And, with Bud's leave, I think this is a pretty good place to end this discussion as the primary issue is being dealt with and there's been a lot of good information shared.

(Good thing you got here first. - Bud)
