List your Walthers

You can all blame Herr Walther, he's the one who got me started collecting these things!!:D

The compact was just a rumor, although it came from a fairly reliable source. The problem is Walther has this bad habit of saying something and then 1 to 2 years later it comes out. The P22 is a good example. We heard about these way back at SHOT Show time, and they still aren't out.

Herr Walther,

That's ok, if there ever was a good disease, this would be one:)

I'm really surprised that you got rid of your P88. Can you get the same one back?

I'd also like to get a P5. I really want a PPK (German of course)

P99

I've got a P99 standard black with two 16 round magazines and three 10 rounders. Also have a PP 380 in mint condition, and according to the S/N, is a 70's manufacture.

No, I won't be getting that one back, though I have asked a few sellers at GA what the serial numbers were on their used P88's. I didn't get any replies. I didn't think I would.

They're still plentiful, so I'll be getting another sometime soon. I just hate to stick that crowbar in my wallet again for those oak grips.

I'd really like to have one of the first ones manufactured without the stepped slide and with the dovetail front sight.

Alright you guys, we gotta end this thread! Yesterday..........I ended up with a P4. Today it's a PP in 9mm and and a request in for a P5. I gotta quit this.........................after all, my Walther book came today and I gotta read it.;)

Quick question, do P38 mags work in a P4?

Off to explain to my wife why they're repossessing her car!

By the way Herr Walther, I've got the serial number you're looking for and you can't have it.:D

The 13yr old neighbor kid's mom has a pp .32.
He just bought a P99 pelet pistol
I'm thinking he should get the new P99 .22lr and then the P99 in 9mm? It would be pretty cool to have all three!

Ok you Walther proof experts. Help me out a bit.

In close examination of my P4, I find the following proof marks and marks on the right side of the slide, frame and underneath to barrel where it meets the frame. It appears to be a boxed type would be six sided mark with an eagle head on top. Similar to an H with the vertical legs tilted inward. Inside the lower portion is,
BMI
B .

To the right of that is the German eagle with BMI under the it's right leg and 10 under it's left. (reverse as you are looking at it)

On the frame is stamped B or H 141 that has been X'd out. On the left side under the P4 Kal 9mm is the date 12/75. Didn't see anything in the book like it. The frame, barrel and slide S/Ns match.

Did I get a bogus, or re-manufactured pistol? Thoughts????

New PPK model?

P99, Have you heard anything about the new model PPK that is supposed to be coming out? I've heard about it on here and from a S&W rep awhile back. I know its probably just rumors, but I was still wondering.

Also, I know its a stupid question to ask if you like the P99. But what is it about it that you like compared to other designs? I feel like an idiot for getting rid of mine now. I didn't have it long, it was one of the first ones in this area as far as I could tell. This was a couple of years ago. I did like it, but I never got to shoot it much and can't remember much about it. I do remember how nice the grip was and the finish was typical Walther quality.

BI, you have a P4 that was used by West German Police. Specifically
the Bundesgrenzschutz or Border Patrol. Those marks that you describe are acceptance stamps by the police.

My P1 has almost the identical marks, just different numbers. My PP Super was used by the Baden Wurtemburg State Police, but has a different marking on it. Hardly looks used at all though. Probably carried alot more that it was ever fired.

This was the only agency that "officially" adopted the P4. They eventually ordered 6,500. Others may have used it.

The West Berlin police force used Manhurin marked P4's.

The P.38 mags work fine in the P4.

Glockjeeper,

I've also just heard rumors of the new PPK. From what I've gathered it will be similar to the PPK/E, which is manufactured by someone else (I can't remember who, but they also have a PPK clone out) The new PPK will be made in Alabama though. Just rumors so far. They were also supposed to be out this fall.

As far as the P99, I have really enjoyed mine. They shoot well. Never had a problem with them during IDPA competitions and they just feel really good in my hand. I guess I'm just a Walther Junky too. I really enjoy looking at Walther's. Not sure what it is, because my father really likes revolvers, specifically .44 mag S&W revolvers. The quallity of a walther is second to none. (Sigs would be my second choice) Plus I just think Walther has always been an inovative company. Although they copied a few ideas on the P99, some other companies are starting to copy Walthers or have copied them over the years. The most recent example is H&K Their new P2000 has removeable backstraps. (Walther copied H&K's mag release)

So thats why I like the P99. There are more reasons, but these stand out.

P99

P99.........

I heard they were going to be made in Maine. Oh well, I guess well see soon.

As for the P99 (the pistol:) ), what do you think of the QA vs the original DA/SA? Whats the sense in having the smaller decocker on the slide of the QA? If its for disassembly, why can't you just dry fire it to do that? The reason I'm considering this version of the P99 is because of my like of the Glock design. What about preban mags? I know they are availble. Their expensive aren't they!? The last I saw some they were well over $100. The 9x19 are 16 shot, correct? Lastly, what's an average price for the P99 in 9x19? Thanks for all the answers!

Thanks again, Mein Herr. It's nice to have some history on the pistol. As I mentioned, I could not find any of those particular markings in, "The Walther Story".

It sounds like mine belonged to your owners partner. It has only some slight holster wear on the right side. Three very small surface scratches on the underneath exposed side of the barrel. The bore is bright and shiney, insides a little dusty. The grips show virtually no wear and very slight surface scratches. The holster is in much better condition than I first thought. I would rate it very good ++. No cuts or cracks, only some rubbing marks. It came with two Walther marked mags. I think I got a, "beginner's luck" find.

The guy at the pawn shop was tickled to get rid of it. He's had it on the shelf for about 5 years. It came with the shop when he bought it. It walked out of the pawn shop for $275 tag, title and tax.:D

I also talked to Earl today too! He felt that a P99 in compact(rumor) would be 1 or 2 years away.:(

Oh well, that gives me time to fill in some gaps and save up for one.

Off to try and talk my daughter into selling one of the grandkids to help fund my new hobby. After all, she's young, she can have another....................some Walthers are getting hard to come by.
:)

Glockjeep,

Maybe they will be made in Maine...I'm not sure either. I just figured it would be Alabama, because that's where the others are made.

Yes, the small decocker is for decocking to strip the gun down. I see it as a safety device. When you use the decocker the plate is still up coveing the striker so it can't strike the primer on a bullet. Just incase a dummy forgets to unload it:eek: If taken to court over an accidental firing, it would be another "insurance" for Walther that the gun wasn't used properly, therfore not Walther's fault.

I've seen mags as low as $75 on the internet. And a P99 for any where from $525 to $700. I would say if you can get one for $575 you've gotten a good deal.

P99

$275!! What a stea..I mean deal! Ya dun good BI. Five years eh? Must not be too many Walther fanciers in your parts.

Off to work. See ya all tomorrow.:D

I have a Walther collection of two. I own a full sized P88 and a PP 32acp that was a German police pistol. I love the workmanship and mystique of the Walther PPs but I am sure the Kel-tec P32 is a better pistol for the money.

The P32 doesn't bite the hand that feeds it and leave the two track marks on the web of your hand. I guess we could have a secret tatoo for the "Society of PP Owners" but why bother when we can identify ourselves by the twin track marks. That is also why we don't have a password or secret handshake.

Regards,

Richard

Richard, I thought the twin track marks was the tatoo.

Just kidding. None of my PP series handguns have ever done that to me.
I guess my hands are just the right size for these pistols.

You might be better suited to the larger grip of the PP Super. This is a PP on steroids. Great little gun and much under appreciated. Out of everyone here registered on these boards I'm probably the only owner of one of these little gems. If there are others, they ain't talking.

They are extremely accurate and reliable. They are built tougher than the PP and they have a decocker and slide hold open catch. And the price is right too. Saw one on GA the other day for a paltry $350 or $400 I think. Ammo can still be found for them too. As a matter of fact this caliber (9mm Police) is very popular in Italy.

Did ya hear that P99? Now's yer chance

In contrast, the USP Tactical feels just right too. Go figure.:)

Herr Walther,

I hear ya. And if I found a PP super, I would definately pick it up. However, I'm not in the position to buy one right now from off the web. I've got the two P99's and the P22 coming, so I've got to watch my pennies for a while.

P99

p.s. would you sell me yours? Take payments on it? :p
