LEO's make a mess at the range!

'Initially' if the simple, reasonable, option of simply alternating their training times is rejected; then yes, I would feel it necessary to point out the violations of county regulations.

And I completely agree that having them pay for use is just shuffling county funds from one dept. to another, but if parks and rec. Employees are cleaning up the mess and maintaining the facility after the SO uses it, I don't see why that money should not go from the SO to parks and rec.

Also, the range was not built for the LEO's, it's part of a county recreational complex that has space and allows things banned in other public parks (including a dirt bike/ATV track, a RC model plane flying area, and the shooting range. All things that have some inherent liability issues, that's why the county built them outside of town near each other, SPECIFICALLY SO THE PUBLIC HAS A SAFE AREA TO ENJOY THESE ACTIVITIES.

And, unfortunate as it would be, if as some have suggested, the SO wants to close the range to the public, then I would actually have no complaints because then County Parks and Rec. would not be responsible for its upkeep, as it would no longer be a public park facility.

Thankfully, it's not up to the SO, hence the reason I will be speaking with the county commissioners (elected officials, in a very pro-gun community).

Sierra, you still don't see how your request if granted may affect others in a way that they may be feeling as you do?

This could end very badly or they could just brush you off. I think the later personally.

I think your intentions are at heart good, but there could be unanticipated consequences to your actions that could impact other law abiding, tax paying citizens.

I think you should let it go!

I live in the Carson Valley. When I first moved here 10 years ago, I used that range. I no longer go there. There were too many safety violations at the pistol range. The LAST and final time I was there, a poorly supervised kid swept the entire line with a rimfire semiauto and the muzzle stopped pointing at me on the parking side of the line.

I now go to, depending on what I want to shoot, any of my several "private" BLM ranges, all less than a 15 minute drive, one only a 5 minute drive.

If I go for an extended trip or it's hot out, I take the folding shade structure and have shade in about 5 minutes.

Much safer, can check targets whenever you feel like it and have the place to yourself and it's free.

why do they close it to the public? 3 reasons

1. Safety
2. Liability
3. Control

Anytime you allow the general public to occupy a space... you must divide the % of goofball by the % of jackass. What you have left is overall added risk.
